Rimmer Bros Carpet Sets

Hi, time for an interior make over on my TR, seats etc are in very good condition but the carpet is the original green one and is badly faded. Does anyone know how close is the Rimmer green carpet to the original shade and what is the quality like ?

I installed one of thier sets over the winter. I can't speak for color match as I did mine in gray. Quality of the material is OK I suppose. I originaly had a set from Prestige that faded to an ugly brownish color. Somewhat upseting in a car that sits in the garage a lot. Anyway, the Rimmer set is just flat pieces that have to be stretched and glued down for fit. I believe they are all that way though. Took me a lot of time & patience but looks very nice IMO. If I had it to do over, I would take it to my upholstery guy and let him make it up from scratch.

How badly is it faded? My grey carpet although in pretty good shape was sun faded around the counsel area. I got some grey carpet dye, mix it with water and squirt it on with a spray bottle, brushed it in and let it dry. It brought the carpet back to a uniform shade. Cost including shipping from States was around $20.00, cheaper than buying new carpet. If your is worn it wouldn't do much for you. Don't know how it would work with other colours. Lots of colours to choose from though.

OMG!!! That floor is perfect! You are a lucky fello to have such a rust free car. Almost a shame to cover that with carpet. [;)]
Forget the carpet & stuff a V8 in it.[:D] Just kidding but that looks better than mine. I'm jealous.[:(]

That looks amazingly clean. I do suggest you carefully check the join between rear floor pan and bulkhead as my experience is that rust can form under the seam sealer. If the sealer is not too thick, and it all feels <i>good and firm</i> and under a blunt broad blade screw driver, then you may well be the owner of the good shell.

In your pic of the RH front floor plan it appears that you might have some surface rust developing around the front inside edge of the tar mat.

I would cut the mat carefully back by say 15-25 mm and treat any signs of corrosion. Further, get underneath and check for any signs of rust around the jig holes.

I put a Rimmer carpet set in green into my TR8 coupe. I was not very happy with the color. I went from a faded greenish brown to two-tone green. It was alot darker and did not speak disco to me.

Agreed. If the seats and carpet are still out have a look at these points on the floor pan. It could save lots of time and trouble afterwards. Be brave when you break the paint though.

Oddly enough, my Spider TR7 is not painted under the carpet. Was this green car re-sprayed?

My spider is similar but looks slightly different. I wouldn't say it was bare metal but sprayed with a flat charcoal type covering. I can't believe bare metal would have lasted that long without forming surface rust, even in Scaramento. (My Spider was built at Solihull.)

As above - the parts of the floor we can't see are the dodgy parts - where the rear suspension arms meet the floor and the rear upright panel. Stress cracking develops and needs to be caught before it gets too bad. My floors are covered with thick stick-on sound proof pads. A bu99er to get them off when I needed to weld up the rear floor !
I fitted blue carpets in the spring - very pleased with them and a good fit except where I had to modify them to fit around my rollover bar mounts.

After having a good prod around found no nasties, so all plastics were scrubbed and dressed and refitted along with new S&S carpet set,brand new set of door cards purchased, now looks a lot better.
