Magnetizing my TR7

Postby Patrick Kramer » 13 Sep 2008 07:14

Hi Again

I recently had a gentleman tell me that he could put magnets on my fuel line and the air intake of my TR7 and increase the power by 6% and fuel consumption reduced by the same. Anyone have any experience with this? I have heard that this has been used on big boat motors and the like for many decades. Cost about 500 dollars. Should I fall for this? Anything to make my TR7 better, faster, cooler...... My son says it´s the coolest car in the world!

Patrick,

I am 100% confident that spending $500 on almost any other aspect of your wedge is likely to deliver greater ROI.

This is a total con.

Is 'meat & 2 veg' appropriate rhyming slang for the TR7?

Don't. It's one of the classical car equipment hoaxes... Spend the money on something fun instead! If it did work - all the main car producers would have implemented it already, since they're trying hard to do ANYTHING that would actually lessen the fuel consumption of their products.

Patrick,

Please send me the $500. I won't send you anything but it will have just the same effect as those magnets......

The most useful magnet you can buy for your TR is one that goes in the glovebox.

Its on the end of a telescopic pen and its helps you retrieve lost nuts and washers from nooks and crannies in the engine bay!! [:D]

The surprising thing is, that these things do work, to some extent.

About 12 years ago, an acquaintance of mine aquired the Oz rights to
a ceramic fuel line magnet thing. He asked me if we would run a test
for him, on all the company vehicles. It was no cost to us, & no
effort either, as our Shell acount gave us fuel consumption &
monthly milage figures, for each vehical, & we had records from when
we bought each car.

On all the petrol things we showed about 6% better fuel milage, with
the things fitted, than before. There was no measurable change, up
or down, in the diesel powered vehicals. None of us could detect any
increase in horse power.

That knocked it on the head for him, as his interest was for the
heavy transport industry.

Patrick, that bloke was no gentleman. He was trying to rip you off,
big time. The thing was imported from the US, & sold for A$16 then,
here. Even allowing for inflation, they could not be worth more than
$25 today, if you really want one.

Thanks! You guys are like a beacon in the dark. I will be back with any and all problems with my TR7 but will try not to make it to banal!
