Chris,
In the early 90's I saw some pics of a rear engined fhc wedge. It was done for off-road work. Can't recall too many more details but I will have a look my backup media to see if I can post further details.
If at all possible, please post some pics of what you saw...

A couple weeks ago at an autocross event I happend to meet a gentleman who was one of the designers on the TR7 (lives only 30 minutes from me) who told me that the original design of the TR7 was to have the engine in the back but thought it was to radical for American buyers.

I haven't thought about it before, but TR7 layout lends itself well to a MID engine configuration (like Fiero or MR2).
You will just have to move the gas tank and then stick FWD engine/tranny in place of rear axle.

Wow Chris! When i posted several months back that i liked the idea of
a rear engined fhc,i was ridiculed by some."its a Triumph not a Porsche"
was one of the replys.I always thought there was plenty of room for a
v8 back behind the seats, just need to figure out the drive to rear
wheels - maybe something like the GT40 v8 set up?
Can you tell us any more about this?
See ya. Paul

I quite like it, I agree a little like a Lancia Monte Carlo (european name). Was it built by Leyland or is it purely a one off?, It looks like a TR7 front end grafted onto something else.

Its a TR7 shell, the rear panel was bought new and it was for a Lancia Monte Carlo. The car builder died 6 years ago but Im hoping his son will give me more details. I have seen a lot of pictures which prove that it was a TR7 shell rather than TR7 panels added to a rear engined car. Hopefully someone in the family will write an article for the magazine.

Great looking mod - sex on toast. Looks quite Italian.
I found the pics of the off roader wedge, but don't have further info.

That looks like a prototype from the Buck Shop at Canley.
Notice the wheels - Triumph Stag.
Notice the roof, door and "B" post - Triumph Stag.
If anyone has driven an MGF on a wet road, like me and powered round a corner and spun and crashed up the kerb, you will be aware that the laws of physics will always bite you on the backside due to the weight of the engine.
If it's in the front and you lift off, it will pull you straight.
Most of the time.
Chunk (slightly sideways).
P.S. Why isn't that car in the Heritage Center?
Interesting piece of engineering.
