Denso Iridium plugs

Postby ACW30445 » 21 Jul 2008 18:08

I searched and didn't find a post on this so here goes.

Yes....I bogarted this from the other site....but I will give credit of course. [:)]

"Iridium spark plugs are a simple upgrade that does make a difference to the TR7 and TR8. Various makes are available however the club has tried and tested the DENSO ones only!"

I had previously thought about installing these in my wedge. Other 'long life' iridium plugs with larger center electrodes can go 100- 120K miles...Denso claims these are good for about 30K give or take owing to the EXTREMELY small center electrode....but I will never drive my wedge 30K anyway so that's a non issue for me.

Best price I have found is on Ebay...$32-35 US for a set of four minus shipping. Locally at the parts store more like about $12-13 US each.

Platinum wasn't OE...so this is just taking it a step further. BTW this is an example of the classic 'Japanese attention to detail' that I sometimes marvel at.

"A Major Impact on Earth?

Many scientists believe that the enormous impact put enough dust into the upper atmosphere to darken and hence cool the Earth for several years. This was theorized to result in shutting off global photosynthesis, with the resulting collapse of the global food chain. As a result nothing larger than 25 kg survived the boundary.

Iridium is found all over the world in the K/T layer and is not an unknown metal (commodity), however; its ability to be used in a manufacture type environment is unique. The current products that use Iridium are cellular telephones (Motorola), sunglasses (Oakley), and now spark plugs (DENSO). The reason for only a few companies using this precious metal is its difficulty to be manipulated in a cost-effective manner."
