Hi,I have been told by a BL mechanic that I should only put Super 97 unleaded petrol in my 1981 drophead.I had a Triumph stagg, verious Alfasuds and Lancias that the technical depts at all manufacturers advised me to do too,is it the same situation with the Half Stag engine in original form?

That's more than unnecessary... Unleaded 95RON will work just fine
- and it's less costly. Adjust the timing if the engine objects to it.

Mine runs fine on standard unleaded - and NO additive. No pinking is heard. Some folks believe they get better mpg on the better grade petrol - with timing advanced to suit. But I just can't bring myself to spend the extra!

You won't get better mpg by using a higher octane fuel, but the engine will run a bit better on it.
My cars usually run on 98 or 100 RON, but using 95 hasn't caused any problems. But you can feel the difference. Have to admit that both my cars are slightly tuned and running on a higher CR.

(there is a reason why they sell 100 RON fuel in Germany [;)])
