Did all TR7/8 door cards have speaker holes?

Postby tipo158 » 07 Jul 2008 19:30

See subject. Since my car is eventually becoming a rally car, it will not have a stereo. However, the door cards (panels) have speakers installed (and the resulting speaker hole) in them now.

Did all TR7/8s come with speakers in the doors? Is there a chance that I could find door cards without speaker holes or should I be focusing on figuring out to cover the hole?

I'm not 100% sure but I think all the door trim panels had the hole for a speaker, even the early ones. I think the speakers were factory fit but the radio/cassette was a dealer fit option.

The main difference in the early door trims was that there was no courtesy light fitted, early cars having a roof mounted courtesy lamp.

Could you cover the hole by just using a speaker grille, without the speaker behind it?

Yeah, speaker covers with no speaker is on my list of options.

However, the ones in the car now are in good shape and I am hoping to sell them.

A previous owner did a good job redoing my interior, and I do not have speaker holes in my car. I think it looks great without them.
