I Have a 1981 registered drop head that says behind the trim Aug 1 1980,yet the VIN plate has been ripped off!. Any Ideas why someone would do this?.

The car was probably built in 1980 and registered in 81, this is not uncommon and probably more the norm, As for the VIN, if it has survived 27 years on the turret top (earlier cars on nearside door) without being removed for paintwork or welding it has done well.

The later (LHD only ???) cars had the VIN stamped in the RH raingutter from the boot.

That was done on the RHD cars too, Beans.

Indiadog take a look in the RH boot raingutter like Beans suggests, the VIN should be stamped in there. If the car has had a respray it may be hard to see the VIN, but look carefully, it should be there.
