Need some info

Postby jclay (RIP 2018) » 29 Jun 2008 19:33

Hi, All,

I have to write an article for out local Triumph club, and I need some information.

First the special editions. In England there were the Premium, the Coca-Cola and the Sprint. Australia got the Sprint PRO. The US got the Victory Edition, the Southern Skies, the Spider, 30th Anniversary and one other special edition car. Also, the TR8. Are there any other special editions.

I also need the production runs on all the TR models. Hum? Spitfires also.

Thanks,

Have fun, drive fast & safe, be kewl,

jclay

Piggott lists the "Jubilee" in celebration of Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee in '77, produced in the spring of '77 in "unknown numbers".

"This car's 'improvements' did not even run to alloy wheels, being confined to jazzy seats with a contrasting triple stripe running from the headrest to the front of the cushion, and double striping running along tops of the doors and front and rear wings. At a break in the striping on the doors the letters 'TR' appeared, although one could apparently have one's own initieals instead!"

There was also the "Premium", according to Piggott. "Once again offered only of fixed-head models, the Premium was a limited edition of 400 cars produced in the winter of '79-'80 at canley, allegedly for the UK market only. All-black paint-work was used, with contrasting side stripes in silver, although there were also some cars with gold striping. A folding fabric sunroof was fitted, as were ally wheels, halogen headlights, twin rear fog lamps, twhin front driving lights and the "chin" spoiler later to appear on other TR7' and TR8s. A 'TR7' logo appeared on the rear wings within the striping band. Interior trim incorporated the plaid cloth seats in navy or tan, a high-specification radio-cassette unit, and a Moto-lita steering wheel. Although the cars looked very smart when new the black paint rapidly became shabby and most cars were eventually resprayed in more popular colours to make them easier to resell. A TR7 Premium in original condition is a rare find indeed today, although we have managed to secure one of the only know original survivors for photography."

The new book, Triumph TR7 The Untold Story has some aftermarket specials, but I don't think they count.

Mickey

I've read 30th anniversary had chrome rings on the wheels also known as beauty rings, I have set on my 78 Spitfire.

The Spider had the charcoal/grey dash of cars of the year but they did have the black vinyl door panels of early cars.

TR7 Spider - 1978 Spifire - 1976 Spitfire - 1988 Tercel 4X4 - Kali on Integra - 1991 Integra

Hi jclay...up here in Canada there was a special called the TR-7 Spoker....mainly about the spoked steel wheels which were white on a BRG car in our local showroom...might have been marketing spin on the Victory edition
