My son has been looking at the pictures of Bert Smeets car and other TR7 rally cars and thinks they look pretty good.

I am just preparing my car to be resprayed in Carnelion Red CDE and had a sudden desire to paint it as a replica rally car with the blue and white added to the red.

Looking through the forum posts on colours it seems that this is frowned on a bit.

Would it be looked down on if I did paint it up as a replica rally car with the right stickers etc??

It's your car! Paint it however you want!

As long as you don't pretend it's a proper rally car, you will be ok.
The proper ones can be spotted by some of our more experienced members, or anoracks as we are also known. [:)]

I dont know anyone who would frown on you painting your car in the factory rally colours. It is the most striking colour scheme for a TR7 FHC , its great to see so many about.

It brings back the memory of a period of time and history that many people would like to forget (competitors and anti-TR7 crowd). Go for it.

I was refering to previous posts by Chris Turner and Croyde Bay about rally car identities (number plate, chassis number) being taken and put on another car and passed off as genuine.
Those colours will always look the best IMHO on a rally car, works car, or not.
BTW this is the red, white and blue of the TR7V8 we are talking about.

Well, that's different from a 'proper' rally car.

To me, a proper rally car is one with all of the kit necessary to go compete in stage rally.

I would refer to Bert's cars and the like as 'ex-works' rally cars or something along those lines.

And, BTW, the white livery cars look much better than the red [:D]

I agree with tipo, the white car is much more "classic rally" imho....
(but then again, maybe that's only because I used to own a white fhc [;)])

on a side note, I also like the green over white group 44 cars too.....

At best, the term is ambiguous.

At the Oregon Trail a couple of years ago, I was taking my driver's car (I was a co-driver) through tech at the same time as David Sutton, who was running a car for Stig Blomqvist. A local competitor here had built an Audi quattro S1 replica and he was taking his car through tech at the same time as well. Mr. Sutton saw the Audi replica and said "now that's a proper rally car".

It is in works colours (the best one of the 2 schemes[8D]) but it is certaily not my intention to pretend it is an ex-works car whcih woulod certainly be wrong. More important is to build it's own competition history and claim to fame (which includes a corgi limited edition model[8D])
