what types of fluid are needed?

Postby humanoid » 22 Apr 2008 06:15

Anyone have a link anywhere showing what type of fluids are needed in the TR7 such as the tranny, transfer case, which weight motor oil? I'm about to acquire a 1979 TR7 and I'd like to get a headstart on getting to know my new love. Thanks in advance!

Well we have had a lot of discussions about the various fuids to be used in a 7, with some differing opinions!

For engine oil, I think we agree that 20/50 or maybe 15/50 is fine. Remember this is old technology, & while modern low viscosity oils may work the stock engine was never intended to use such oil. Just good quality mineral oil will be fine. If you don't do many miles just make sure you do a yearly oil & filter change.

Gearbox - again many differing opinions. The factory recommended ATF for the 5 speed cars but I think a lot of our friends in the States like the Penzoil synthetic transmission fluid, there have been some threads on this if you do a search.

Let us know when you get the car.
