Shift Knob

Anyone know what the thread size is on the shift lever? I need to repair mine since a PO snapped it off & only 2 threads remain. I figure to cut it down & weld a bolt on, maybe shorten it a bit in the process. I figured it would be metric but an 8mm won't thread in. A 5/16 SAE threads into the knob but feels a little loose. BTW, stock LT77 in a TR8.
Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim ,
I shortened my gear stick by 30mm and using a 8mm die nut cut new threads , after the original gear-knob fitted back on ok .
Hope this helps .
Keith.

Thanks. I thought that it should be metric since the rest of the trans is. Perhaps the threads in my knob are buggered up from running it only screwed onto the two threads? I will have to check it out a little better. I like the idea of shortening the throw. I need to work on this today so I can continue reinstalling the interior.
