Miles per Year

Postby Rust Restorer » 27 Nov 2007 20:45

Just out of curiousity, with the year nearly over I have done 2919 miles in my DHC this year since off SORN in March, and 1608 in the FHC this year, which has had no winter use so far as Heater Matrix is leaking. This is around 600 miles down on last year, and both are not in daily use because of the distance to work. I would like to know if my mileage is average, poor, or high compared to others, obviously you Californians out there will be driving yours all year round unlike us British guys who are ruled by the weather.

Much higher than mine, which is now garaged for the winter (and rear suspension rebuild when I get around to it). I only use it on decent weekends as it seems to melt if it gets wet, hence only 600-800 miles this year.

Average I drive 5000 km a year, mainly outside the winter. Mostly in the weekends and to car clubs.
This winter I must also repair the heater[V]

The 7 is a daily driver, & does about 12,000 Km a year.

The 8 is more or less a toy car, & averages about 4000 Km a year.

The old Toyota Cressida is used for rough work, & does a couple of
thousand a year.

My wife does about over 3 times this total, running around with
grand kids etc. If I could just restrict her to my more moderate
mileage, I would have much more money to spend on Triumphs.

I use my TR7 when the weather is nice, and did 2900 Miles on it this year...but soon it will be tucked in the corner of the garage for
our up coming winter snow season.

I drove my TR7 most the first few years of ownership, but now with the 3 young ones around ( oh the joy of family life [;)]) has drastically cut down my seat time.
When I got the DHC, she had a few ticks over 21,000 kms. As of right now the car has 57,404 kms. I prolly would have done more K's this year (with the wonderfull second half of summer we had), but alternator woes ended my season early........

As I just liscensed my TR7 this June driving has been restricted in part by weather (wet year) and I was busy working on the car in between car shows of which I made three in June, July and August . It's been in for "winter renovations" since the starter packed it in sometime in September. (doors disassembled, starter out, hopefully new door cards, Clutch cylinders overhauled and new clutch hose to fix slave leak, plus whatever else I can do as time permits.) I probably haven't put more than three or four hundred miles. Next year will be a better test.

I have an Integra I use for work, a 4X4 Tercel for "snow driving" the few days a year that happens (west coast) and when ever. It will be going into "rust abatement" program this spring so TR7 will be taking up much of the slack. In total with all driving including wife's I put on about 12,000 to 14,000 KM per year.

Both mine are used all year and between them i covered 5,000 miles last year but due to the terrible summer we had this year and lack of national events i would say by my year end which due to MOT's i deem as February this year i'm only going to cover around the 3,000 mark between them.

I try and drive one or other at least twice a month to work to evert Register and Drivers meetings, various shows etc and anytime i get the chance..

My 1975 TR7 has covered just 15,942 miles which averages out at around 500 miles per year since it was built. Not the sort of milage perhaps you were looking for! Can anyone top that statistic??

(The car has never had an MOT, only one tax dsc I believe and has not been used on the road since before SORN was invented. The Registration Number is secure however.)

Well,as i mentioned before,my Auto gets about 5000 miles use on all sorts of errands and leisure. The V8 done 3000 this year, but this will be a bit less next. The Austin did 4500 before throwing idle bearings out its 'box! And just to put this into perspective,i do a further 65,000(approx)a year in my 80 ton Scania,(the saying goes - low loaders do the shortest distances, but take the longest time to get there!) So, i do a good 75,000 + (i get other vehicles to use too)in the average year.I just hope this bl00dy government does'nt introduce road pricing nationaly!

See ya. Paul

I average 6000 miles a year in my DHC V8, driving all year round - though I do try to keep her off the road for the odd day the gritters have been out. A fair proportion of tmy mileage is to attend club meetings every month - TSSC 90 mile round trip, TR Register nearly 120 miles!
I daren't tell my good lady what I spend on fuel![:0]

Andy,i like Daf's,but their owner's,Paccar(who own Peterbilt-like those too)have killed off the last great British truck maker,Foden.Infact,MAN have axed ERF from their line up too.So now there are really only European choices. My boss rates Scannies,i think they're over rated, and out of choice would pick a Volvo FH16 for heavy plant movement.

See ya. Paul
