How come I have been removed?

I was one of the first on the map but having just checked it I am no longer there!

Uh Oh.

It looks like the map is going into retirement! [:(]

It'd be a shame to lose this, so something really needs to be done. I'm just not sure what.

Any ideas?

In the meantime, I've downloaded the data so that's safe at least, and I can display it in Google Earth (works quite well actually), but it'd be nice to have it displayed somewhere on the web (preferably somewhere that's not about to be closed down!).

I'll have a fiddle about and see what can be done.

I've been looking at Google Maps to replace the Ally map. I created a map which I can edit, place markers & invite others to via email. It doesn't seem to be searchable but that may be because it has just been created. I don't know if it will work but it is worth trying. Click on the link below & let me know if it works. If so then let me know by PM if you want an invite to the map.

I tried it, it opened to a view of Google Maps but unfortunately the map was static (no panning, zoom in or out etc) and the search would not work (tried my address, postcode). No idea where in the world was shown but it was very zoomed in.

It works for me! If I follow that link I get a Google map that I can zoom in/out, move the map around, show as a map, satelite, as Google Earth view within the web page or directly in the actual Google Earth software. If I have a Google account & I'm signed in then I can edit the map (ie, put markers on it) in the My Maps mode but only because I've been put on the list of authorised collaborators, which, as I said, is done by invitation.

Ahhh, sweet New Zealand.

Have a look at this tutorial.

http://earth.google.com/outreach/tutorial_mymaps.html

Not everyone will want to put their specific address but even a town or city centre would do. If enough people can get their heads around it then it will do the same job as the old map otherwise it is just another internet moment that will pass into the big null server in the sky.

There are now 2 entries on the new TR7/8 map. Who is it that has the 2 7s in Georgia? What I said earlier about authorisation by invitation seems to be somewhat overstated because this listing just popped up without any requests etc. This is good though so start using it.

Ok, it now seems to work for me in access, going to my postcode etc. Now, for the computer illiterate amongst us, how do you add yourself and fix it with a title?
