Remote Gear Housing

Postby busheytrader » 16 Jan 2022 21:41

On the drives to and from Gaydon and Malvern last summer, the gear change felt like it was dragging between the gears after an hour or so.

This weekend I had a look inside the LT77 remote gear housing after dismantling it, much like this thread from the V8register. https://www.v8register.net/FilesRV8WN/1 ... -up-SN.pdf

Yes, the anti rattle spring and nylon plunger will readily shoot out when released, or like mine when you’re trying to refit the gearstick. (I found the plunger underneath in the gearbox mounting)

The gearbox cup had a few black gummy deposits but was otherwise dry. I reckon this created stiction when hot. As per the article I applied some LM grease before reassembly. The movement felt a bit smoother on a short drive today. Hopefully this will solve the stiction between gears once the hot weather returns.

Mine was a bit neater than this.

Hope this helps if you have a similar issue.

I always find that little nylon anti-rattle plunger is a real PITA to get back in!
