IIRC on one of the government websites, it said that once you’ve sent off your application for historic status and free road tax, you’re good to go on the roads. Still looking........

I kept photocopies of all the necessary forms in case I was stopped, even though I have a Road tax receipt from the post office.

That would be good to know. I applied for 'tax' from 1st April in the hope I would get to use it this month but it seems unlikely now.
When I looked up the DVLA website the other day it noted 4 weeks for changes to the V5 but may be longer in the current situation with the backlog.

I did scan all the documents into the computer so could print them out.

I just re-insured my car today, was with Lancaster Insurance, renewal went from £102 up to £162.93.

So i phoned about to find out that i could get cheaper insurance because it is now historic.
Now with Adrian Flux £87 + £15 for agreed value so £102py

Ouch! That's quite an increase. I have a 9-3 convertible with Lancaster so will have to look out for that. The TR7 is with Classicline and was up to £102 last year with AV, will see how that comes out this year and might look around. Insurers seem to be screwing all now despite the past year having a lot less mileage and claims due to the lockdowns. Even the house insurance went up at 10x the rate of inflation and they refused to negotiate on it so moved insurer again.

Just checked on the DVLA website and my 'SORN' car has changed to 'Taxed' with a new V5 issued as of 23 April 2021 so I guess all the paperwork is on its way back and I can now use it on the road. :D

Mine’s showing it’s taxed, but there’s no V5 update registered and the MOT status is “no results returned”. I’ve driven past several ANPR cameras and nothings happened yet.

Mine was MOT'd until November 21 anyway so still shows that. Not sure if/when it changes to 'Exempt'.

Couldn't resist a run down to Halford for some wheel spray for one of the other cars. Seemed a little sticky at first but then it has not had a run out for around 18 months. Soon freed up and felt good to have it out again.

Put mine in at the post office on 1st April. DVLA web site showed the change in a week, and new V5c is dated 21st April.

Your Gov still uses cheques......I haven't seen one of those for over 10 years!
They apparently still exist here, but it's mainly only old geezers that use 'em.

As an aside, years ago here in the state of Victoria there was an odd loophole in the law. If you got a speeding ticket or a ticket for some other traffic offence, you would pay the full amount of the fine + $1, the state government would then send you a cheque to return the overpaid $1, you would never cash this cheque. The government would not add the demerit points to your drivers licence until the cheque was cashed.
Of course they changed the law pretty quick once the word got around, but I got away with it a few times!

I still haver a few3 firms in town, who have known me for years, who prefer cheques.

With a cheque they don't lose a percentage to the bank as they do if I use a debit card.

I think they do it on the basis that by the time you have bothered to go to the bank and pay it in you will probably lost or forgotten it! I think there is very little else that uses cheques now, maybe just share dividends posted. Everything is electronic, not that it stops banks trying to charge you for large transfers. Apparently I can use my phone bank app now to pay cheques in but no idea how, never had to do it.

Ruby is now Taxed and ready to roll
But first I need to fit the new spark plugs and a few major jobs before it will be ready for the road
In about 2 months time I should have her back at mine from storage and then I can start looking at the list of things I need to sort. :)

It’s been 6 road tax free weeks since I walked out of the post office. No paperwork back from the DVLA yet, I guess it will arrive in due course.

I am still waiting for my Logbook from DVLA although they issued my V5c on the 5th May, They say allow about 6 to 8 weeks though things should be speeding up a little now with things slowly getting back to.....well nearly normal!
