just done my Sunbeam Lotus (which was on SORN) at local PO. You need to tax and change to historic at same time so you need to take a completed V10, your V5C and MOT cert or V112 MOT exemption. That all - simples!

Took my pack of forms into the main PO locally today and they didn't seem to have a clue. Just kept telling me they could not tax it as Historic as it was not classed as Historic on the website. Tried to explain that that was what I wanted them to do but did not seem to speak the same language.
Gave up and have now posted it all to DVLA. Not really fit to get down into a TR7 at the moment so no great hurry for a while.

And this is in a tiny sub post office desk in a small newsagent. I guess the historic registrations aren’t mainstream enough for proper procedures or training around the country.

Just looked on line and my car is now showing taxed.
that took 7 days to show, bit more than normal, but so you know DVLA are on industrial strike action this week so this might be why.
But i am now taxed
:D

My wedge is now displayed online as taxed but without an MOT.

But you can’t obtain road tax without a valid MOT... The historic MOT exemption declaration is handwritten as is the V5 change to historic class so it’s not surprising that it lags behind a bit, more so with strike action.

The government website states that once the paperwork is accepted and road tax issued you’re free to drive on the road. Hopefully this weekend.

Do they actually change the MOT record if it is exempt? I had assumed it would just show the last MOT whenever, not sure if it would show as Expired or Exempt at the top though if it was not done in the last year.
I would plan to have one every year or two dependent on use just to check underneath and for deterioration I could not see.

Copied off the website. It comes with a bold red background.

This vehicle's MOT has expired
You can be fined up to £1000 for driving without a valid MOT

It will be Historic as over 40 years so automatically exempt

I’ve not had an historic car before so I’ll see if the website updates in the next couple of weeks.

I’ve had mine for almost 35 years, Ivor Lenscap near me has had his R reg FHC since new!

My first Historic too but mine is a little different in that it is currently MOT'd (until 27th November '21). However, I thought you had to give them a V112 to confirm it was MOT exempt? Seems a bit daft self certifying it but DVLA do love their forms!

you would only need a V112 exemption if it didn't already have a current valid MOT cert. In your case you would not require a V112

No, but I sent it to DVLA with the pack as CKS responded to an FB thread and said including it meant it was kept on the record for the future and therefore would not be required each year - if I understood correctly.

As you have to apply for tax each year even with it being zero tax my understanding is that you still need to submit a valid MOT cert or a V112 every year you tax it. I might be wrong but.....

I guess we’ll find out in 12 months time......

There must be someone here with an historic FHC who’s gone through this. Or are we a FHC free zone?
