Fuel filler hose

Postby lee4a7v8 » 29 Oct 2020 15:43

Hi all
I need to replace the fuel filler hose between the filler cap and tank (TKC3728) as mine is badly damaged.
I've looked but they seem to be unavailable so what are you guys using instead.
Thanks
Lee

I used a 300mm long piece of universal ø51mm diameter flexible fuel hose from a motor sport outlet for my current '76 project:

I used some fuel hose from our local parts store. The very knowledgable owner advised me not to use any fuel hose available in Oz, unless it had "Made in USA" printed on it.

Apparently many previously trusted brands moved their production to India or Mexico, & are no longer to be trusted.

Thanks for the replies.
I have taken measurements and the tank inlet is ok at 51mm (2") but the filler inlet is approx 57.2mm (2.25").
How did you overcome the different diameters.
Thanks

Sorry! The filler tube on very early cars is ø51mm on both sides.
And on my two later cars I still use the original hoses

I assume that you’ve tried S&S and Robsport? I replaced my rusted out tank on my DHC several years ago. The hose and clips etc were in A1 condition so reused them. Have you looked at kit car suppliers such as these? https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/fuel-filler-hose

Thanks again for the replies.
Robsport didn't have any when I tried, but forgot S & S.
They have the correct pipe S/H so problem solved.

Cheers

Any time you are looking for hoses be it fuel, coolant etc. do not overlook hoses from other makes and models. I've done this for a number of hoses, on my FI 2 liter Spider. Take the hose in and see if they can match it. In the case of the coolant return hose from heat to block there is a weird circumference reduction hose. I had replaced it with the TR7 one and the following year it started to leak. Taking it off, there was cracks all over it. I took it into local auto parts dealer (Bumper to Bumper) they matched it up with a VW one and it's been fine these last years. Sometimes you have to cut the hose on one end or the other to get the right length. About the only hose that has no comparison is the one from lower rad to engine block. This is the cooler temp hose so should stand up better.
