Agree with Beans, if you are going away next week, if it ain't broke don't fix it. That's asking for trouble!! Mine is standard and works OK too.

Oh you swines, in a fit of excitement at getting them working again I ran all the wiring and fitted the relays in place, just not wired them in yet. Maybe I will wait until I get home. :lol:

Also bear in mind every relay fitted is another thing that can go wrong :P

Why do people mess about dismantling old light switches when replacements are so cheap?

I wasn`t sure that the switch was the problem so wasn`t going to buy a new one just in case, and now it`s working I don`t need a new one. :D
I also quite enjoy doing little jobs like that, quite therapeutic don`t you know.

Wouldn't call ± €20,00 exactly cheap. And I heard and read some stories about the quality of the ones sold nowadays not being as good as the original ones.
Can't speak from own experience as I still use the original switches that came with my cars. And I have a few original spares just in case ...

Just throwing my thoughts in the bag.....I suppose you could fit relays to one side to significantly reduce the load on the switches (I guess this would be the l/h side on U.K. cars) or would there be any problems with this? supercass

I was only saying replace as all i read is about bits and springs flyng everywhere when you take switches apart !!!

WOW!
I would call $20 cheap, considering I paid A$146 :shock: for my last headlight switch. This was pretty expensive as it lasted only 35 minutes, before the parking light side failed.

Still I suppose there has to be some compensation for your poor sods, living somewhere other than Australia. 8)

No springs and nothing flies out. Just need to take it apart carefully and note which way around the contact strips go. Quite simple really.

As I recall there are two springs and two white little actuators but nothing goes flying out (that's the signal light switch). It can go back in several ways, only one being right so it's important to take pics. Assuming the plastic isn't so brittle it breaks there is no need to buy new switches (whose quality is likely to be worse than the original). Spend money where it's needed, not where it isn't. Has been stories on Oz pricing goes a long ways to explain why they have multiple instances of "repair industry" where in other places it's "replace with new".

I'll probably have a go at it anyway

If i screw up i'll buy a replacement.

Im not sure how the switch would only affect one side headlight raising and lowering.

Someone will be along later to explain - hopefully

it the problem is on only one side, then It's not the switch!
