Which of the clubs tends to be the most TR7 friendly (in the North East specifically)?

I can only speak for tr drivers club and they have been very friendly and welcoming.

If you're feeling brave you could try Club Triumph's Pendle and Pennine Area. A few TR7/8 around there

We are in North Cumbria there's a branch of the Tr register but without being disrespectful they don't get too excited about the 7 and seem to be into polishing.
We joined Wigton Motor Club for about £20 which gets you into the Dalemain House car show access to all sorts of motor sports events and also as a car club gets us discount on insurance. They have 800 members and are proactive and local to us but obviously have members all over the north

I live way down soooouuutthh of you gents but in answer to that one, when you insure your you will asked IF belong to A car club, give them your membership number and this will normally give you a discount. I guess it has to be a recognised club and not just you and a mate ! Plus keep the membership up during the period of insurance IF it lapses and you need to make a claim then you may find they won't pay out.

I know in some parts of the country clubs will share meetings and events, personally think this is a great idea.

I belong to both TRDC, for best part of 30 years and TR Register for 20 plus and both are very active down here, which I realise don't help you a lot !

Whilst several clubs have TR7/8 members there is only one club primarily focused onto the TR7 range and we all know the TR Drivers Club are that club. As a group we have been working on improving the fortunes of the TR7 for many years (this forum is an example) but in more recent years we have had much success and not only in this country in fact. My opinion, there is only one option for owners of Triumph's famous wedge and the more of us there are the better we will do. We all have to stick together for the benefit of all.

A new club insurance scheme is being negotiated right now but others already offer club members exceptional deals. I've been with Footman James for about 15 years since they established a deal with the TRDC.

Out of interest John, would you be able to advise the percentage or numbers of TRDC members who are not TR7/8 drivers?

The TR Register caters for the earlier models very well indeed and the TRDC does likewise for the later models. Whilst both clubs are inclusive, is there an argument that the TRDC should be clearer about its focus?

I'd say the TR Drivers is the only TR7 focused club, however, depending where you are in the North East you may need to also join the TR Register to get to a local TR meet as there's not many of us TRDC members around Tyneside/Wearside/Durham/Northumberland.

I've never looked into that Tony but we do tell all the classic car journalists our raison d'etre is the TR7/TR8 but like the TR Register cater for all TR models. It is a fact that lately we have been getting a lot of members with early TR models but I would guess we are still around 90% Wedge owners. Probably as a result of all our efforts in the 2014 40th anniversary year, all of a sudden there is a lot of interest in the cars and that is why the membership is going up and up now.

Looks like we'll be having another media blitz shortly owing to the Bullet Run and other things that are set to happen with the club so it should be an exciting time for the club for the next couple of years too.

I'm in Teesside near Redcar so monthly meeting in up to about a 40 mile radius are within reach (Whitby, Helmsley, Northallerton, Bishop Auckland, Durham, Sea ham would be a rough arc). Although nearer the better as the distance does mean you can't always make it after finishing work late / other commitments (life!).

My experience of many other classic car owners is a hatred for the 7 - based on bugger-all experience, just conjecture. I'm sure you know what I mean. I don't find this with any other classic I own (MR2, Land Rovers, Mini, Jags, Suzukis (bikes), Kawasakis, Lambretta, BSA). But the attitude seems to cut across many other owners and not just the Triumph fraternity.

I'm at the point now that my resilience has worn thin and I simply can't be bothered with individuals if there is a negative attitude presented to me about the model - hence why I'm looking for a more forward-thinking (not TR7 lovers necessarily) and open-minded group. The last local Triumph based meet I went to (15 years ago) all loved their pre-TR7 TRs; rudely and overtly hating the 7. I didn't go back obviously!

I'll do some digging with the TR Drivers' Club. If anyone knows a local (to me) contact let me know.

Interestingly this forum has seen more than triple traffic in the past 6 months - when I inherited the forum we had 3800 'members' ... of these over 900 were identified as spammers and removed ... 650 were accounts that were used just to promote other websites (SEO spammers) .... a tad of a nightmare to start off.

But interest in the marque has seen an influx of new members to the forum, taking us way beyond the previous record of members and we are now well over 4000 with the majority of members logging in weekly or more often.

As for clubs, TRDC are the most active on this forum, followed by TWOA and then the TR-Register. This is somewhat difficult to quantify accurately as not everyone has filled out their profile and some are members of one, two or all three clubs!

Well, I've taken the plunge and splashed out the money on the TRDC. Purely as it sounds the most TR7 orientated.

Call me a modernist, but I've a passion for 70's and 80's cars, the older models don't really cut it.

Perhaps the sudden upsurge in TR7's might be a sign of more people willing to come out as "Wedgist".
