Hi guys, I've finally sourced some good condition doors for my fhc. Both need a minor repair of one part of the skin. Im not hugely up on bodywork matters. Could you please advise me on what gauge/grade of steel is best to work with? Thanks in advance.

I prefer 0.7-0.8mm mild steel for car body repairs.

That would be around 20 - 22 gauge.

A mate of mine, a very practical bloke, who does a lot of work on older damaged cars, & has "spares cars" around the place, likes to use a bit off the old part to repair any replacement parts.

He reckons a bit out of the old door is ideal to repair a small bit of rust in it's replacement.

Is he smart, or just cheap. I don't know enough about it to have an opinion.
