Let's talk 205/60/13

Postby WhiteTR8 » 02 Aug 2014 23:14

Are there any manufacturers still making these size tires to fit a 6 x 13 rim. I realize that that Toyo and Hoosier are making semi race road legal in this size but are there any other options out there? Or am I doomed to going to 15 inch rims once my Sumitomo HTR 200's are scrubbed down?

I think were doomed ..... even 185-70-r13's are scarce if you don't want wallymart specials. The other reality is that 15's are probably about the same price minus the new rims.

I recently did a post on the Kumho 185-70-R13s I have fitted to the front of my 7.

They are not track tyres, but are better in almost every way than the Pirelli they replaced.

Quieter, much lighter steering, more comfortable, & equal cornering power, for about 2/3Rds the price. You do feel to me as if they are going to understeer, probably because of the lighter wheel effort, but so far they have not. I must be kidding myself.

I haven't had them out in the wet, other than slightly damp yet, but then I try to keep the 7 off wet roads, so may never know.

I don't know if they make a 205-60-13, but I hope so. I'll have to check. My Bridgestones on the back are now over 4 years old, & will need to be replaced in the not too far distant future.

Try their web site.

I think our supplier base differs from yours but I had no problem about this time last year getting 5 ( the Yokohama's were over 10 years old) new Michelin 185/70/13. Albeit a few years ago my daughter pt new TOYO 185R/70/13's on her 7.
No problems to report I have a 2Km dirt road to get out of to the tar.

Hoosier and Toyo still make a number of models but it says "racing and autocross only".

Kumho still make the standard 185x70x13 tire.

Tip: for a quick selection of availability go to tirerack.com and click on select by tire size.

Seven years ago when trying to get Michelins to replace the worn Michelins on the car the manufacturer (distributor) in Vancouver said they were only available special order from France for $395 each. (I got the Kumho's).

I know some people who have gotten Vredesteins in the 205 60/r13 size recently. I am not really familiar with the brand but the people I know who have them love them. A bit on the pricey side as I understand it.

To answer my own question, there appears to be a much bigger selection in the UK than on our side of the pond.

John,

You didn't read my post closely. I'm not on standard size wheels. I'm using after market 6 x 13. The optimum tire size for those is 205's.

I need to replace the tires that came on my 80 DHC TR8. I am leaning towards buying the Federal Formozas in 205/60r13... I am not sure about my wheel size... I don't have the stock wheels on the TR8 they are 13 inch but don't know if they are 5.5 or 6s is there an easy way to find out... I think that they are mini-lights but not positive
