That Didn't Last Long!!!

Postby REPLIC8 » 02 Jun 2013 17:01

Having got the TR8 taxed took it out for a drive today. Running lovely but within a few miles rumbly grumbly from the rear axle again!! Arrgh!!
I've had a new prop, rebuilt diff and new rear bearings so should be great. Got it up on the stands again and the nearside bearing has about 3mm of in/out movement and when it's pulled outwards I can also move it up & down and left to right about 1mm. The offside is similar but not as bad. I'm assuming I've been supplied with cheapo bearings, so I've ordered what I hope are decent ones and will try to get them fitted before Billing.
I'm assuming when I check them that the measurement from the end of the axle tube to the bearing seat should equal the measurement from the end of the outer race to the inside of the backplate? Any discrepancy would surely equal in/out slack in the halfshaft?
