Does anyone else have pictures of their first cars? When gas was cheap and hair had color. Big blocks and hurst shifters, but I still had some british roots and brown hair.

I had a whole succession of bangers in my early years.

I don't have photos of any of them, unfortunately. [:(]

My first ever car was an Opel Kadett 'D', looking quite similar to this:

Image

Yes, in that colour as well! [8D]
Mine had door mirrors rather than wing mirrors, and round headlamps but otherwise just like that.

Then I had:
1980 Ford Fiesta Mk1 1l
1985 Vauxhall Cavalier MkII (1.6l)
1982 Mini Clubman
1986 Vauxhall Cavalier MkII SRi
1982 Vauxhall Astra GTE (MkI)
1988 Rover 825
A succession of company carzzzz
1991 Vauxhall Cavalier mkIII CDi
1978 Datsun Skyline
1990 Ford Orion
1990 Saab 9000
1994 Vauxhall Astra Mk4
1994 Saab 9000 (still got this one!)

And of course, the TR7 - although recently that's not been a car so much as a 'project'. [;)]

My first car was
a 1970 Mk3 Spitfire. Signal red, and with 6*13" ATS rims. Owned it for 30 years, and (sort of) still miss it now.
This picture was given to me by a friend when he heard I'd sold the Spitfire. I'm so amazed when I see that minute little
one-man tent. That tent, the Spit and I had many a nice and adventurous journey back then. Just look at the soggy
ground on this particular morning - nothing could stop us, young and foolish as we were... [:)]

Nowadays?
It's me (OK, much more of me), the missus, a comfortable TR8 - and hotels, that make those not-so-adventurous trips...
Unfortunately the caravan isn't used as I once thought it would be.

First car was a Mini. It lasted 7 days. Then a Spitfire 1500, then a Herald 1360 dhc, a couple of Vectra SRi company cars in the 90's, a GT6 Mk3, a Marina while the GT6 was being restored, a TR7 2.0L, an Astra, an '85 BMW 320, the GT6 again, a Ford Focus (1st new car) & the TR7 V8. Clarkson would have a fit!

You poor kids, you've never had a chance to drive really good cars
have you. They were all too expensive by the time you started to
drive.

I learnt in a 28 Chev.

I did my drivers test in a 30 Dodge

I first did a mile per minute in a 36 Dodge

My first car was a 35 Morris 8/40. Well I was poor.

My second car was a 36 Pontiac Super Chieftain roadster, with a
Dicky seat. Wow, what a car that was.

Then a Singer 9, a couple of MGs, a TC, & a TF.

A Simca Arond, & Morgan +4 were my only ever new cars, apart from
company cars.

Then a Lotus 20 Formula Junior, & the rot really set in.

The best car I have owned would be a toss up between my F2 Brabham,
& my TR7. With my 7, what more could I want.

I've still got my first car after 28 years...! A 1961 Ford Popular 100E. The photo was taken in 1984 and the aircraft is a Supermarine Swift, allegedly the sole survivor.

Image

If bored, you can read about its lengthy, ongoing restoration here...

(With reference to Odd's post above, it must be genetic because my uncle has owned his similar Spitfire MK3 in Signal Red from new in 1969).

Cheers

Graham

No photos of mine - cameras were yet to be invented. [:p]

Austin 1100, written off when someone ran into me at a junction, then onto a Viva HB which I sold to my brother. I then got a "modern" car - a 1977 Chrysler Alpine. What a heap of junk that was.

Wow GREAT pictures everyone, I love the Cop car (Blues Brother).
Nice selection of cars Clay, I also had a 68 AMX 390 and a 67 Dart GT rag top. I started with the 67 Alpine then the Javelin, 440 6pack Charger (wish I had that back) next 455 4 speed TA after that I just went crazy, cars and more cars. Now with the 7's we have the wifes car, Cale has his 7 & and an Audi GT Coupe, will the family truckster is a Dodge Magnum Hemi wagon.
