Both cars at the same time you'd think the garage would do a two for one offer, unfortunatly not

TR7fhc 1st

failed windsreen wipers stopped working a tiny bit of welding and the rear rubber exhuast bracket went miising bugger!

lose wire sorted the windscreen wipers, 79p for the bracket and £30 for the welding NOT BAD

TR7v8

Falied! leave it out i said [:D]

very slight play in the front near side bearing and the fog warning light buld stopped working

luckely the bulb was lose and i had a spare bearing so that cost nothing

so in all £30 + £54 twice for the MOT and both 29yr old cars are all good for another year of fun

Thank goodness we don't have any such silliness. Our only MOT is when the car stops running at the side of the road. Fortunately on a club run there is usually someone with the knowledge, tools and parts to get it running. As a group we keep our cars in pretty good nick so that is kept to a minimum. Long live the colonies![:D]

Our MOT is every 6 months for cars 7 years & older. 6 MONTHS!!!! Sure a car needs to be safe but give me a break. You'd think that a safe driver would be important too but once you get your licence you are good until you are 75. If they were that worried about road safety they'd make you resit your licence every few years. There's a few things (besides cars) that need fixing in this world. [:(!][:(!][:(!]

Glad you got thru your tests, John. I think you got off pretty lightly. [^]

[rant] On the other hand, I see plenty of cars running around our roads that shouldn't be. Many have multiple lights out, or huge cracks in the windscreen. I can't tell you the number of times I've glanced at a car that I parked next to and seen tires with no tread and visable cords. It rains a lot here in the winter and we have idiots driving cars with worn out tires and wipers and no lights. Then they wonder why they can't see or stop when it is wet. [/rant]

We have to get a road worthy certificate, [MOT] before we advertise
the car for sale, & a current certificate, [they are current for
one month only] must accompany the car to it's new owner.

Otherwise it does not matter how decrepit, or dangerous a car gets,
it is only checked if a cop decides to stop it. Some of our cars
are only held together by the memory, & habit of the rust
particles. If ever those particles stop holding hands, it's good by
car.

Hi Hasbeen,

That was the rule for Victoria when I was there, now I've moved to NSW it's a pink slip (MOT) every 12mths.......and registration is a rip off and a pain up here. In Vic the rego and third party (TAC)was together, in NSW you have to arrange your own TAC (greenslip) which is through insurance companies that want to stitch you up ! The NSW Govenment set this up years ago to allow far competition.......they forgot that insurance companies don't work to the same tune.

Rant finished.

I think the 12 months MOT is no bad thing. Not everyone looks after their vehicles or cares how safe they are.
Although, when mine is due, naturally I wish we didn`t have them....
