I think the rack advertised looks like its hydraulic rather than electric. Usually electric systems have a motor on the rack to give the assistance. I dont think the rack shown will fit a TR7 the front track will be wider than a Corsa.

Well spotted Chris, the picture is just a standard one they use on all their adverts. What they're selling here is an Electronic Power Steering rack (EPS). I'm pretty sure this wont bolt straight on, it wouldn't be any fun if it did!
the Vauxhall Corsas front track is about 200mm wider, better that way round than it having a smaller one. The 200mm is from an SRI model, standard is 70mm. Roughly. I'll find out soon enough!

Fairly sure its the column you will need not the rack.

I think S&S were developing an electric power steering system for the TR7 based on the Corsa unit a few years back. Not sure if its available yet.
Just checked their site (
http://www.ss-preparations.co.uk/), its £1500+VAT fitted! Think I'll keep the original and save on the gym fees.

Has anyone had this fitted?
Would love to hear a first hand review

I'm pretty sure that most of the Escort lads who carry out this conversion use only the electric motor and the upper part of the column, the column is then modified to join to your existing knuckle joint and standard rack.
The problem is fitting the motor out of sight as it does not allow the original plastics to be retained.

I thought the usual conversion for a TR7 used a steering column from a Saxo, maybe the same as the one on the Corsa. Hope it goes well, keep us informed as I could do with Power steering on my 7.

If this all turns out well Rob, I think you should change your name to 'Bobbiestriumph' - pun intended.

I would love to mate but the garden's getting landscaped within the next few months so way too tight for space. I think the plan is when the car is stripped for its dip, prep and paint i'll try and get the EPS system in. No deadline this time, i couldn't face it again! Cheers for the offer though[:)]

It's the corsa c colum that you need to convert to electric power steering not the corsa rack, check out the mk2 escort conversions around the web (good move though [:)] )
If it's got tits or tyres then it's gonna cost ya!
