Has anyone bought parts from here and had them shipped to the UK? $70 against a well known uk suppliers £200. It's gotta be worth it surely?

Someone recently had a water pump sent from BV that he was not happy with. I think it was a manufacturing defect that turned out to be mostly cosmetic rather than functional. My recollection is he returned it for a new one.

Thanks Nick, i remember the thread now. I'm going to email them, see what sort of price i can get it delivered for. i'll post it on here, i don't see why the Americans should get all the bargains[:D]

If /when I get trouble with my pump - I'll be going to Tony Hart for a recon pump - he is very well respected in Stag land I believe.

Please! Bargains???? I do most of my shopping with vendors out of the UK and have it shipped to the US because of cost and availability. Do you know if that pricey water pump is a NOS piece? If it is they can ask that and they'll get it. These newer pumps are cheaper because they are made in India (last time I heard) so there is your cost savings. Not for me though. I grab spare pumps off of Ebay for a song when they come around and keep them as spares. If I had a choice between the 2, I would take the Pricey NOS over the cheapie regardless about reservations for quality of each one. But like I said there are NOS ones avalable elsewhere for less. at a quarter of the UK price it is very much a bargain! It's the first time i've looked abroad for parts, most are resonably priced over here. i'm not sure which is NOS or remanufactured, i'll have to check but to be honest at that price it's not really a problem. With regards to waterpumps on ebay, and other parts, it is something i should be doing. until yesterday the waterpump seemed ok!

I installed a cheap VB pump a few years ago and have had no problems with the pump. I'd say buy it up!

This is only vaguely related to the topic, but over the past 10 years there's been a steady deterioration in the quality of everything mechanical and electrical. Case in point: At our local "big box" store I saw 2 identical compressors, same manufacturer, same model number, and everything. But one had an American Emerson electric motor, the other had one from the Shanghai Special Motor Company that was identically rated on its plate. The Emerson's case was packed full of large-gauge copper wire windings; the Shanghai's used much smaller-gauge wires. The Emerson had large-diameter shaft and bearings, the Shanghai had small shaft and bushings. Being identical in the eyes of the store, they were the same price. Guess which would last longer and hold up better to operating loads? And guess which one is the ONLY one in the store now, six months later? "Cheap" drives out "quality" at any given price point, every time. I agree with the posters who buy old stock and hoard them against future needs; modern-made stuff isn't up to the same standards, whether for Wedges or any other car. (Don't even get me started about how many fuel quantity pick-ups I've had to buy in the past 5 years for my old Dodge!)

buy the repair kit, there is 2 seals and 1 bearing to replace,

get the back of the impeller machined if there is any surface corrosion so i can seal properly, and just rebuild it, its not complicated.

I have overhauled this water pump around 4 weeks back and did lightly machine the face of the impeller where the mechanical seal presses up against. It isn't water which is leaking, it's oil. The shaft was slightly corroded which i cleaned up but i guess the o/d is now too small for the oil seal to work. My fault totally and i've only got 11 days before driving to france[:0]

Totally agree with the quality of part these days, another unrelated case is an aluminium casting on one of our packing machines, it's been on there 14 years without a problem. The visiting engineer decided that rather than remove the bearings from it and replace them, he'd replace the whole lot including the casting as it was easier. We've now broken 2 since early April, metal fatigue. The casting is terrible.

Re: parts and there pricing. I've ordered parts from US and UK. Sometimes prices are very much cheaper in US and sometimes cheaper in UK. Sometimes the price reflects the quality and sometimes not. You can't say one country has better quality than another until you get similar parts to compare. If the US gets their parts from UK suppliers it is going to be more expensive than if you got the part direct from UK. I got door cards from Rimmers that were a fraction of the price of VB's door cards and were like original but the more expensive VB ones had aluminum on the upper third to prevent them from warping when they get wet, much better quality. My conclusion so far is you pay your money and you take your chances. Sometimes you're ahead of the game and sometimes you're not.
