Hey guys.

Every time I give the throttle a stab, or shit down a gear, when the car jerks, i can hear a sound like something is knocking against the top of the left rear qrt panel / B pillar.

an ideas?

Recommend you don't shit your gears! (couldn't resist)

Jack the car up & take the left rear wheel off. Inspect the shock mounts & have a look at where the upper & lower trailing arms are attached to the chassis. It is rare for the trailing arms to pull the mounts off the shell but it can happen. Take the trailing arms off & have a look at the bushes. If you have the rubber bushes they will probably be as old as the car & will be shagged.

Good luck.

What part of Brisbane are you in Adam?

If you can't find it, & your not too far away, you could bring it
down, & I 'll have a look/listen, if you like.

Could be worn or perished bushes on the rear axle linkages causing movement. Our cars also rot in the nicely designed rust traps where the floorpan is welded to the rear passenger bulkhead, especially around the radius arm mounts. This allows the radius arms and rear axle to move about under acceleration and braking.

If you're lucky[;)] it might be a worn gearbox rubber mounting allowing the 'box to move around.

Shit happens when you have an older car.

never use the words "shit" and "stab" in the same sentence. Sounds like a good case for poly bushing. are the exhaust mountings ok?

Also check to see that the muffler is not hitting against the frame above it.

I had this exact problem shortly after I removed the gas tank and reinstalled. Turns out I did not have the proper torque on the trailing arm to body attachment. Torqued it to spec and all is fine.
