Would it be rude to politely ask that twitter grammar not be used when making a technical post? While some abbreviations have become a part of the lingustic norm, much has not. I, for one, have no idea what you are trying to say.

While I do appreciate the incredibly fast evolution of the English language and it's almost cannalbilistic manner in devouring other languages, much to the chagrin of that language and culture, can we please not advance it as if it were on steroids? You do know about steroids, don't you? They make you big and strong while at the same time making your testicles grow small and weak.

Mildred, what is being said here is 'near side' and 'off side'. Its widely used over here in England and came about long before Twitter. Probably even before the web for that matter. Acronyms and abbreviations can be annoying and computers do seem to have fueled this (IMHO!!![:)]).

Could the panels be labelled left and right simply because the near side and off side would be irrelevant in left hand drive export markets?

Not irrelevant but definately confusing as most of the worlds population drives on the right hand side of the road. Whereas Left is always left and right is always right....no, no, no...your other right Stephen..[:)]

I've learned never to use "driver's side" or "passenger's side" on forums (especially British car forums) because it always ends up getting confusing somewhere in the world. Right is right and left is left (except when I've been working too long and start turning bolts the wrong way when trying to loosen them...sigh).

The hood/bonnet thing always gets me, though. People ask "hood" repair questions and I go on about spray paint and buffers when they're talking about a convertible top [:I]

I must confess my post here came after spending some time with my grand-nieces, often referred to has The Bad Seed and her younger sister, Carrie the Firestarter. (I'm teasing here!) Being age 5 and 3, they are a handful. As such, my mood had yet to fully compose itself.

In any event, with a clearer head I have gone back and reviewed Mr Dark's composition. Here it is:

Left is Left and Right is Right. And on automobiles it is related as you are siting in the car. Simple enough to me. And it doesn't matter which side of the car you are sitting in. Unless somehow you are sitting backwards in which case you would have to drive in reverse.[:D]

So what is Port & Starboard? I never could get that right & I own a boat.[:(]

I forgot.. and have to add.....back in 1996, when I bought my first wedge, I went windshield-wiper shopping at my local Pepboys. The way the catalog had them listed was one part # for left side, one # for the right. Spent an hour trying to get them to fit! Turned out the catalog referred to UK cars, not USA models! (larger on one side, smaller on other) I still remember that day LOL LMAO
