Seat belt warning circuit

Should my 1976 FHC have a seat belt warning buzzer, or just a light on the dashboard? I'm trying to get all the electrics working before I put the dashboard back in but am having troubles with the seat belt warning circuit and one other fault - my headlights don't lift when I flash the indicator stalk, although the lamps illuminate. I'm wondering if these faults might or could be related. I'm now pulling my hair out!

Now I've checked all the wiring from the rear loom - all the rear lights work correctly, the handbrake warning light and the fuel sender unit works.

Following some of the wires on the seatbelt warning circuit lead me to a pecktron unit which has vents in it, and it is these vents that make it look like a buzzer (I have a spare pecktron that doesn't have these vents, and my gut feeling is that this is the pecktron unit for the lights - any ideas?).

One strange thing I have found is that if I place a cable between the green/orange connection on the seat belt pressure sensor and the corresponding wire in the connection block which goes directly to the "Fasten seatbelt" circuit, then the seatbelt warning circuit works perfectly in all configurations. That just confuses me even more!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On my "79 I have a light and buzzer. They go on when the seat switch is activated and go out after about 5 or 10 seconds if the belt is not lached.
If I activate the high beam stalk with the lights retracted, they activate but the lights do not come up. I was wondering also if this is correct.
Hasbeen, you posted about flashing your lights. Do you do it with the light master or the stalk?

Hi,

I think the UK 7's were configured a bit differently to those for the US. Myself and a friend both bought 1980 TR7's back in 1986 and the seat belt warning lights both worked the same. (I still have mine)Neither of them had buzzers.

The driver's seat belt has to be connected to put out the light if it's being driven solo.

Any weight detected by the passenger seat sensor pad will light up the dashboard warning light if the passenger seat belt isn't connected. I've often buckled up a package on the passenger seat just to put the light out.

I don't think the seat belt warning light is in anyway connected to the headlights or the lift mechanisms.

Hope this helps,

Adam

I don'nt know why, but American 7,s have not the pektron unit so they cannot flash with the headlamps.
Maybe your pektron is shot.

One more piece of the puzzle. The seat belt light and tone only come on after the the key is turned to the start position. At that time the light and tone come on for 5 sec and then go off.
I have the Pektron unit and my does not flash. What else does the Pektron unit do besides flash the headlights?

I recently entered Narnia, thru the secret door at the back of the glovebox (after removing all the gloves). There I discovered a disconnected block connector. Upon reconnecting I now have a buzzer and seatbelt warning light which goes off for a few seconds then stops whether I buckle up or not... 76 Calif TR7.

Looking at the various wiring diagrams, it looks like the Pektron has a completely different function on US and UK cars. On the US cars it is called a "Buzzer timer." On UK cars it is called "Headlamp flash control." Buzzer timer is the seat belt buzzer that times out after 5 seconds.

pektron unit is just for flashing the lights to my knowledge, has nothing to do with the seatbelts, and the seatbelt warning will usually only light/sound when the ignition is turned on...just to panic you before driving off without it...[:D]

the project at birth, watch it evolve...I hope...

That is true for UK cars. US cars are competely different. See my other post on Pektron Unit.

My '76 FHC only has a dash warning light...........
but you've got me wondering now about the buzzer - watching with interest !

Nick, my head lights flash is controlled by the turn indicator stalk.

The first time I did it was by accident. That car had a rather
sloppy stalk, & I must have pulled the thing a little, as I used
the indicators.

As I had been fighting with the electrics on that car for a while,
my first thought was "Oh no, what's broken now".

So, am I right in thinking the seat belt warnings should have a buzzer on UK cars?

Mine has never buzzed - just the warning light for me. I never even realised it should have one.

Nope. No buzzers on the UK spec cars.

Lucky you. The buzzer isn't a pleasant chime like on today's cars. It is one of the most annoying buzzes ever. While I never had one new, I had friends that bought 7s and 8s new. One of the first things they did when they got the cars home was to disconnect the darned thing.

If my wife flashes her perkatron's at me the buzer goes off but the light does not usualy last for more than 5 or 10 seconds. Does'nt seem to matter if I have my key in her ignician or not. Tried it sitting in the seat and standing but light still goes out but buzer is good and strong as long as the perkaton's are flashing the high beams at me!
