Hi all, newbie after an Auto project!

Hi guys! I'm on the lookout for an Auto project as a present for my mother's 60th birthday in 3 years! I'm looking for a FHC rather than a DHC, as my mum has always had a thing for them.

I run my own restoration/custom business, and I specialise in BL/Rover products, and so my mum can use it regularly I'm looking to fit a NASP T-series 16v Rover engine. At present I'm unsure on the fitment of the TR7 auto box (were these bolted to the 2.0 O-series in TR7's?), so I might even need an O-series SD1 box, but an auto car is probably a better base. Not after anything mint, as I'll be giving a full works resto a paintjob and mechanical upgrades. Also, what's available in terms of new interior trim? REALLY like the red tartan, but I'm after presenting my mum with basically a brand new car.

Thanks for any help and advice, look forward to getting to know you guys! I'll get cracking on research now so I'm kinda up to speed!

Cheers

Rich

It may help you, if you let us know where you live.

I know the perfect car for you!

It is in excellent condition and has an auto box if I remember correctly.

I am assuming that you live in England.

Well, maybe not, as I just looked at the photo. It is a white drop head with a perfect blue leather interior with up grades, but is an automatic. You could always buy a hardtop from Rimmers!

The auto box was available on the fours and was of two types depending on year. Borg-Warner I believe. I went for a ride following a TR7 auto box and was surprized at it's performance. Don't know how it would mate with stated Rover engine. If you're in UK probably lots of 16V sprint engines over there or a 16v head you could put on existing engine. 90,000 miles on my stock engine and doesn't burn any oil, get up to 40 mph (but 36 is more likely at speed although it is FI.) No oil leaks after valve cover gasket and oil pump o ring.

Hi Rich,

I`m not sure if I`m reading your post correctly, but it seems as though you are under the impression the TR7 has the O series motor, but it doesn`t, it has the old Dolomite Sprint motor with an 8v head. Apologies if I`m not reading it properly.

I don`t know if the autobox will fit onto the T series, but I expect someone somewhere will do some sort of adaptor? I should wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to answer that.

Andy.
