There will always be something to fix...

I went cruising yesterday with a couple of buddies and their S2000s, top down, pretty weather, and everything ran beautiful. [:D] When I went in to work today and I was putting my top back and windows up and my window regulator on the passenger side decided to give out and had to drive home with my window cracked while it was drizzling. [xx(]
Can you guys give me some pointers before I attempt to replace it? I'm planning on ordering it from Victoria British on Thursday. I already torn the door panel apart. I'm assuming it will be a pain since I have replaced a couple of others on other vehicles.

Chris, the manual gives you a point, [about 1/4 down from the top,
from memory], where it is easier, [or less hard] to remove the
winder gear.
Make sure you return the window to that spot, when reassembling, or
it is damn near impossible.
Apart from that it is pretty simple, just horrible, but you all
ready know that, from experience, it seems.
Oh, & it just may help, if you learn to swear in french. I believe
the replacement winders are made there.

Hi Chriss
I have been trying to make mine automatic/electric.
so I have taken the mechanism out and in several times these pass months.
I Found that loosening the sides channels both the one on the triangular glass and the other side makes the glass easier to handle.
Make sure you mark with a marker the possition of the screws before loosening them.
As you already know the glass goes in and out on an angle back side up.
you might try to take out the rivets on the winder to see if it is fixable
.and check ebay sometimes you can get a good deal.
Rimmer is also having a good sale take a look it might be worth it.
and don't forget to buy neospouring and band aids for the new collection of cuts you will be receiving.[B)]

When Chris said the window was cracked I don't think he meant it was broken but that it was down a bit allowing some rain in. You don't have to remove window to replace winder. If you do remove window, don't touch guides, take off upper stop on quarter light and it lifts straight up and out.)
Have your Significant Other (or fellow beer drinker) hold the window 2/3 to 3/4 up as you remove winder. It will come out opening with some fiddling. Same with going in and inserting all rollers in guide. I've done four now and it would help to have three hands but can be done with two.[:)]

Thats correct FI Spyder. I just meant it was rolled down a little bit. I will replace it as soon as the part arrives. I'll take some pics for future window regulator replacements.
P.S. I have the band aids and neospouring on stand by.[xx(]

Just done both sides of mine. A second person helps, they hold the glass while you remove the mechanism. Bit fiddly, mine was very grubby as it was coated with waxoyl, but not difficult. The trick is remembering how it came out when you fit the new one and keeping the glass about 3" below open. With the door panel off it took about 5 minutes to swap the parts over.

I think I remember using good old duct tape to hold the glass in position. The ocassional loafing around friends never seem to be here when I need an extra hand.[?]

Got my window regulator fixed today! [:D] Here are some pictures doing it. I missed some more detailed pictures due to the excitment of getting it fixed. Like you guys said, I did need an extra hand (I made my girl friend do it [}:)]) and I did cut myself.[xx(]
I found out that one of the teeth are broken on the gears is the reason the regulator messed up.
I still have a problem... putting up the window is really hard and you really have to crank the handle. It has been like that for a long time and probably the reason the other regulator broke in the first place. I did grease up the rails but it still does it.[:(]

That finger is bent anyway. Hard to feel sorry for it. [}:)]
Is the mechanism catching on the drooping sound deadening panel?

Did you lube the channel with the nylon rollers?

The window rides in rails front and rear and it rides on felt type material (a bunch of little hairs). If these are worn down it rides on the material beneath and I think it has a higher coefficient of friction making the window harder to slide. These rails are adjustable and if there is too much play the window can cock making it hard to roll up and down. My windows were so stiff I could only roll them up by pulling them up by hand while I round the crank. I cleaned old grease out of the windwers and regreased, put new felt guides in and adjusted guide rails (as well as new outer seals and door cards (warped). The windows move up and down relatively easy now (but not as easy as a friends TR7 that has original stuff.) Maybe it will get easier as everything wears in.

I did grease the channels and it freed up a little bit. I think FI Spyder is right about the felt type material. A while back that material popped out and it was really easy to roll up and down. When I put back where it suppose to be it was really hard to roll up and down.
I guess i'll have to get new felt guides and adjust them.
