The TR7 looks at home with the surf gear.

Do you get any comments about the car or it at home with all the VW Camper vans.

its great to see that motor on the road now steve.
i love those split screen i would sell the motorhome tommorow and buy one if it wasn't for the missus telling me there wouldn't be enough room blah blah blah........
my parents have a T25 VW camper not quite a split screen but they love it and I think there coming to billing this year in it with the wife driving our motorhome and me driving the TR7....

It rides again..... and again wehey!!!!!!!

It's running.. Tax, MOT, Insurance, the lot! Had to get a new (s/h) distributor before the luminition would work, new coil and leads, new carb/manifold rubber gasket, vacuum pipes, temp sensor, auto choke seized.. already had new fuel pump, plugs, oil etc.

Still needs fuel sender and have some electrical gremlins.. brake lights stay on if the side lights are on. Wheels need balancing.

The engine and gearbox are sweet, it's 30 years since I drove a 4 speed TR7. Love the skinny tyres and the soft ride!

So far it's attracted no attention at the shop because we're had no customers.

Spent this afternoon cleaning 18 years of grime from the inside. Discovered that I'd been driving around with a rodent's nest (thankfully vacant) under and behind the passanger seat! It was quite a size and made of Oak leaves. I first discovered a stash of acorns in the L/H corner of the passenger footwell, under the carpet. Rats don't eat acorns do they? Other than that there were spider webs, mould and even a bit of bird poo.

Hope to fit the "new" boot rack tomorrow and clean up the electrical contacts.. I love this weather!

Is there anything that rats don't eat? Before you balance those tyres you ought to consider replacing them. Even if the tread is good, tyres have a finite lifespan & if they are more than 10 years old it would be risky to hit the motorway using them.

Don't you just love cleaning!

steve is there anything wrong with the boot rack thats on apart from no loop thingy?

Great to see the car on the road, weather supposed to be dry this week so lots of opportunity for those little jobs.....

Wait a minute, I thought that the right hand was the right hand and that the left hand was wrong. [:D] Being right handed I'm not sure I could shift with the left at all. It would be fun to try some day though. Maybe some day I can take a holiday in Britain and find out.

Jim, you'd be amazed how quickly it becomes second nature.

In Oz, we change with our left hand, but all open wheeler racing
cars had the gearstick on the right, when they still had such
things. Even the first time I used a right hand stick, just a
couple of laps & it was automatic.

I could drive a sports car in one race, [left hand change], then a
racing car in the next, [right hand change], without thinking about
it at all.

The only time I had a problem was when I drove a Brabham F2 [4 speed
box], & a Brabham F1 [5 speed box], the same day, in consecutive
races. At the end of the long straight, & only there, on each lap
of both races, & both practises, I had to consciously think which
car I was driving, before deciding wether to pull back, or push
forward on the gear stick, to get out of top gear.

Steve, I really love the paint job, on the shop that is, looks
great. The car's ok too.

Your rodents are more friendly than ours. Here they eat the plug
leads, or indicator wiring or some such. When my wife used our
Toyota Creesida for commuting, 2 nights in one week they decided to
nest on the nice warm cylinder head, between the cam covers, where
the only food was the plug leads. 2 leads monday night, & 3 on
wednesday night brought out lots of rat poison, thursday night, &
ever since.

Why is it our fault whenever her car won't go, no matter what the
problem is?

Hey!...I'm left handed but shift just right with my right hand. Been doing it for over 52 years. (Been driving since I was 12...lived on a farm you know.) It all depends on what you're used to or get used to.

It's not a problem at all.. it's the 3rd TR with lhd and my camper is lhd (that is interesting on the Devon lanes, trailer on the back!)

Personally I would not recommend lhd in a sports car. Overtaking is a lot more tricky if your low down and blindsided. With a decent amount of power it's just too tempting to pull out when your not absolutely sure it's clear.

A better technique is too hang further back where you can get a better angle of view, once your sure it's clear, close the gap quickly, straddling the line then carry on past. I did this once to a slow moving lorry but didn't straddle, stayed on my own side, closed the gap at speed, then pulled out.. staring straight at an oncoming car! Nearly died in more ways than one. No, would not recommend lhd for a low slung performance car as you cannot enjoy the performance properly.

Slow moving stuff, particularly with a high driving position is no problem except in the camper (9.5 ft wide) it is difficult turning out of side roads and entering roundabouts if the angle is too acute to see other traffic. A passenger is then very handy as long as they are not asleep (no name no packdrill).

Ended up working in the shop all day getting it ready for the coming season so no fiddling with the TR although I did drive it to work this morning. Had to swap it over at lunchtime through because had to take down a load of shop fittings and 10' chrome rails etc wouldn't fit in!

I can poss get away sunday and was toying with the idea of attempting Stonleigh in it.. but not if I havn't got the electrics sorted.

Gaz the rack inself is stainless steel and in good shape. The mounting blocks are chrome and a bit pitted but not obscenely so... The problem is that the uplifting bit at the back (that stops your suitcase from sliding off) is missing. I suspect that sooner or later the bit needed might be on ebay USA or someone on the forum might be able to help. It could be used it as it is or maybe a home fix might be possible.

Hasbeen.. the rodents have stripped the insulation off of the seat wires but they are not connected. The heater works well and we got so hot that I put the cold are vent on... We were instantly covered in foam dust a a bunch more acorns fell out from behind the heater console and into the passenger footwell!
