Gearchange lever

Postby nick » 08 Feb 2010 23:51

Here is an interesting field fix I found once I removed the gearchange gaiter. Whilst I know that some strange things came out of Triumph, like the gearbox mounting bolt ties, this surely did not come from the factory. I don't see this part in Rimmer's catalogue. Is there a flange that bolts this down or how does it attach?

This is the kind of back yard engineering some folks think is just plain brillant!

But, not me.

What happened back in the dark ages is the tab on the collar broke off. The tab was held in place with that bolt still in place. I suggest you seek an undamaged collar, or have a new tab welded onto the old collar. Also, check to see if the small spring and nylon button are present. If not, order a new one. This spring & button keep the shifter from rattling. It fits in a hole on the back side of the shifter and is held in place by the collar.

I found the part in Rimmer's but it is NLA. Looks like it is retained by a single bolt through a flange. Maybe the field fix is just as good. It has held up for at least 5 years.

It would be easy enough to make up a tab and weld it to the collar.

Robsport certainly had the collar part last year.
S & S list them today at £10.00

Thanks Ian. I have a pretty large order coming from S&S so I just emailed Rick to add the retaining cap.
