Water wings wanted.

Postby Hasbeen » 07 Feb 2010 01:43

I have been getting a bit jealous of all you blokes with your 6
inches of snow, & all that. Well, I think I've caught up now. In
fact, I may be in front.

I'm not sure I can get to the 8 right now, & I'd have no chance of
driving it out from the old greenhouse, where it now livs, with 1
or 2 of the other cars.

The greenhouse is about 100 yards from the house, but it's about 150
down a farm track to get to it, from the front gate, & that is a
problem right now.

You see, between 1.00AM & 9.00AM this morning, we had 8 inches, [yes
8 inches] of rain. When I started walking down that track, I was
sinking in almost an inch, & the water was welling up &
overflowing each footprint.

My dam is overflowing, thats up a few feet, & the river, on my back
boundry has gone from 9 inches to 70 Feet deep. That puts about 5
acres of my bottom padock under a few inches.

Fortunately, the house is 600 yards, [or is it metres] from the
river, & about 80 feet above where it is now, so all is safe. I
doubt I could get out, in any drection for some hours, or even
days, if it doesn't stop raining, soon. All the roads will be well
under.

If you have any waterwings to fit a 7, please let me know.

We're having a dry spell here, unusual for the Wet Coast. Planning on going out and do some staining tomorrow on some landscape ties. Just saw on the news where they got 3 in. of snow per hour over night in Washington, DC. It's rough on the East Coast, poor ba***rds.

We just had what the experts are calling one of the top 5 worst winter snow storms in Pittsburgh PA history. We have about 2 foot on the ground. Massive power outages from fallen trees & power lines. Luckily, ours was only out 24 hrs & came back last night. You never realize how much we depend on electricity until it's gone.

We lost some nice ornamental trees. Some dogwood and a beautiful weeping cherry are destroyed. Today I have to figure out how to get the snow off the satelite dish so we have TV again. I really hate ladders! [:0]

Yes Jim, I read that global warming was giving you blokes another
workover. Second one this winter isn't it?

We lost our power for a few hours, but we're used to it. It happens
at least 15/20 times a year, as our power comes through some rough
country, & tree branches knock the lines out.

At least with your weather, you can keep your food cold, we have to
own generators to keep our fridges going, when the powers out.

I know what you say about ladders. I have to trim the dead fonds off
some tall palms. I used to climb up a 53ft high mast, on the yacht
no problem. Now I have trouble at 25 ft up a ladder.

Sorry to hear you are loosing favourite plants. We have a different,
but similar problem. I nursed some stuff through years of drought,
only to have them die of rootrot, the first time we got a wet
summer.

We are locked in for the next 24 hours the cops reckon, unless I
want to paddle out in the canoe. Normally I can get out of here in
6 different directions, on 6 different roads, but they are all
under too much water right now.

Global Warming....LOL!!! After the storm passed, it cleared off and down in the teens last night. I'd like to lash Al Gore to one of the remaining trees in his undershorts. Warm enough for ya Al??? LOL!

I cheated on the satelite dish. Stretched the garden hose out and melted the snow away with a stream of water. Only thing is, there isn't anything on the tube I care to watch anyway!

What Shaun, of me paddling the canoe, Or do you mean the flood?

My camera has not worked for years, so sorry mate, no.

I took hundreds when I was cruising around the Pacific Islands. I
was so disappointed when I found most of them had gone mildew, &
useless, in the damp environment of the yacht, I lost interest in
photos.
