Keys

Postby Dennis-TR7 » 05 Feb 2010 22:35

So we own a TR7, but I was wondering. How can one get an additional key made? We only have one, but its stays in the ignition for now. (its not stuck, just don't want to loose track of it around the garage.)

So where in the US can we get keys made? Car is '76 and I believe it is the original ignition.

Thanks in advance for the help!

You should just be able to get one cut at any good locksmith You can buy Triumph blanks on ebay if you want to stay original

I've had two sets cut at the local locksmith. Ten minutes, not a problem. Make sure it is a locksmith though. The local hardware guys could not help.

Good luck,

Sue

Yuppers, a real locksmith (were not talkin' Homo-Depo keys made either..) can help ya out right quick. I asked my long-time locksmith here in town if he could just cut keys for me if I got them off E-bay. He said 9 times-outta 10 those keys are made from too soft a metal. I never tried it. So I just bought what he had on hand. They dont look like originals, but work juuuuust fine.

It's Deja-Vu all over again! This topic has been done before, if you wish, the SEARCH function can take you there.

For those wanting a vinyl clad key instead of an all metal key, we use the 'ilco' brand key, #MZ13-P. It is round and was found and keyed at a local hardware store. The profile of the shank is slightly different but works perfectly.

Not having the 'swirling L going down the drain Leyland logo' has not caused me any lost sleep.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Hey FI Spyder,

What's wrong with Jerome AZ? It's a fun little place, especially the asylum (it's a restaurant - not an institution for those who think you have to be crazy to own a wedge).

The superlite dealer for the USA is only a few miles away in Prescott. I know of several posters on this site that got their wheels there.

If you are in AZ, e-mail me at rjshust<at>live.com. The DCTRA
Desert Centre – Triumph Register of America http://www.dctra.org/?page_id=3 meets in Phoenix this Tuesday if you want to talk Triumphs. There are always a few wedge owners that show up each meeting.

Nothing wrong with Jerome, AZ. It is a fun little place with a great history but despite having a converted brothel I don't expect it to have much of a locksmith place. Unfortuately the last time I was there was some ago when I was staying in Sedona. Also went on to Prescott same day on a day trip.

Haha just for the record, the search function times out quite a bit. I did use the search function, right up to the point where to crapped back an error! [:D] Not sure why, but possible my PC. IE8 has been the worst internet browser update.

Still haven't gotten a key made. Been too busy with working on the car. [B)]

Nothing to do with browser etc, just the website/software. When it times out just click reset icon then retry button on the window that pops up and you will have your results.
