New guy looking for carpets

Postby Neil Rogers » 05 Feb 2010 04:34

Hi everyone. I have recently acquired a 1980 TR8 DHC and have been absorbing information here for a couple of weeks.

The carpets in the car faded badly and are now an ugly dark yellow colour so I would like to replace them.

Does anyone have experience with carpets from The Roadster Factory or Rimmer Bros as far as quality and closeness to original? Any recommendations on who to buy carpets from?

Hello Neil,

I've bought a carpet set years ago at Rimmer. The set fits perfect and the quality is very good. You can also considder to buy an underfelt carpet kit it keeps road noise inside the car down (but you don't mind with a DHC perhaps)but it also makes the curves in the floor to look smoother.
Did you check Robsport? They are not expensive and I find them better to communicate with.

Greetings, J.

Hi, Neil -

I have a set from the Roadster Factory. Very nice, and pieces were easy to install.

Hi Mickey

Your interior looks very nice. What is the colour of your carpet? It looks like it would be perfect for my car. The Roadster Factory lists medium tan and dark tan for their nylon carpet and they don't supply wool carpets anymore. I'm assuming yours is medium tan. Is that correct?

Thanks, Neil. Yep, medium tan. If you ask, TRF will supply samples. By the way, these carpets are nice and thick; floor pieces were supplied with insulation attached. The tunnel is in two pieces, but fits very well with no bunching. Installation was much easier than anticipated.

The only hitch was that they sent the B-pillar pieces for the coupe by mistake. They replaced them without any problems. If you do order the set, check to see if you get the right ones. DHC sets should be longer, as they have to reach all the way up the pillar; coupes have a trim piece, I believe, which covers the upper part.

S&S also has them. I have not seen them but they have a very good price. I have been talking to Rick about sending me one.
