FRUSTRATION TIME!!

Postby tr7inc » 30 Jan 2010 08:33

Hi guys, just wondered if any of you had come across a similar problem now i know its daft, but i seem to still have the ongoing problem with my bonnet not, lying as flush as it ought to do, now at first thought it might be the bonnet is warped somehow but i ruled that out when i had it off etc, but what i did find interesting is that, with the airscoop off it sits fine but with the sccop on it doesnt now forgive me for sounded daft here but any way round this part from removing the airscoop as it is in the correct place honest[:)].

Many thanks all

Are the rubber seals fitted top and bottom new or the original items?

Sometimes the new stuff doesn't have the correct profile.

Hi Adam, the seals that are on are original, although to be fair they could do with being replaced.

By air scoop are you referring to the fresh air duct for fresh interior air?

Yes, Ive had this problem. Ny cure on my car was...put it in place being sure its in the lower channels. latch it with the two latches at the top. Unlatch slightly and push down on each side of the duct, then relatch. My problem was it would rise up on one side or the other as it was being latched in, hitting the hood.

There is a flange on the firewall at the very bottom that holds the intake in place. Be sure it is not bent and the intake can slide fully in and all the way down.

When I replaced the rubber on the firewall and the rubber on the fresh air plenum I had to adjust the latch so it would close. It does sit up a little higher but that is something I'll have to live with until the rubber takes a set in however many years (it's three now) and I'll be able to adjust the latch down a little. Makes sense that with the rubber profile the way it is it's going to sit a little proud. With an all black car it isn't as noticeable as a yellow car.

It takes a major effort to get that darned fresh air duct reinstalled correctly on my car every time I take it out so you're not alone with this one Steve. Mine seems to have terrible trouble seating into the guides mainly due to the throttle linkage used for the Webers but it's probably something similar causing your problem.

Try shutting the bonnet with the air plenum out to see if the rubber seals on firewall is holding it up. If it will lay flat then you know it's the air plenum. If you have to adjust the bonnet latch be careful not to adjust it too tight as it will be difficult to unlatch it. Little bit at a time.

It's harder to fit the plenum on a FI car as the throttle valve is right next to plenum and you can't really see what it's doing although the trouble I've had is missing the firewall clips so it doesn't sit flush to firewall (it would sit lower so that's not your situation).
