Fitting aircon.

Postby Bobbieslandy » 24 Jan 2010 22:22

Hi,

Having never seen a TR7 with Aircon, does anybody have any pics of the dash layout? did the aircon operate through the dash vents or was it a seperate system with separate vents? did it have a seperate aircon switch or did it operate when the lever was set to cold?

I'm tempted to fit aircon as it's a lot more common in scrap cars these days and i'd imagine it wouldnt cost a great deal to buy.

cheers!

Rob.

i'll sort some pics out basically its a completly different air box and hoses only difference on dash is push pull on off next to rheostat. then under bonnet you have compressor condensor twin pulley and extra radiator with twin fans in front of existing rad plus associated electrics and pipes

here you can see compressor

here you can see on off switch

on this pic top left you can see condensor and electric are under black cover

if you factor in the earth's rotation, we are all speeding

Also there's a switch/thermostat in the radiator that turns the two electric fans on and off as required to keep the coolant temperature in check as well as to cool the refrigerant in it's radiator.

Have you considered fitting an after market one? I have seen a system for sale at http://www.nfauto.co.uk/cbs_products_new.htm I was thinking of doing it myself, but just not got round to it yet.

If you do end up fitting air con, be sure to let me know as I am thinking the same too and would like to know how you get on. I am taking my car to Australia and think that I will need it lol
