Do I go again!?

Postby nadg63 » 13 Jan 2010 06:34

Been offered another TR7 as a resto project, (but would end up becoming a V8/Sprint, def not a standard 4-cyl!), no more race cars though, this one would be strictly built as a road car/toy so no cages etc. Still fancy one for road useage, the previous one is just to 'full-on' and not exactly road legal either, (well not for normal use anyway)

Do I want to though .............. this is the question [?]

The car is a 5-speed 1980 model, in reasonable condition body wise, interior not the worst I have seen and rumour is the engine does still work OK, but that's not important.

Only problems I can see with it is it's green and it has the large factory webasto/roll back sunroof which I have never really liked ................. but the more I think on it, the less I dislike it, it is going to be a road car after all!

Here it is:-

It looks fairly sound by the pictures, and you will strip it out and spray it anyway I am guessing?

Changing the colour should not be too much of a problem, although to be honest I don`t dislike the green.

You are not expecting anyone on here to say don`t buy it are you? [:)]

Am so very tempted, have until this weekend to decide on aquiring the car: would say it is very likely to happen [:D]

Have already decided that if I go for it, I will keep it green, but not that green, more along the lines of this:-

Kermit lives!

Wouldn't be exactly the colour above, but down this end of the world both Ford and Holden do some standard colours very similiar - makes life easier later on in case of a bingle to use an off the shelf colour [;)]

Reckon it would look good in that colour with a set of forest flares on the guards and some larger wheels, (will still go for the flared look even if it is a road car - just looks so good!)

No, that would be a silly thing to do, your too busy now, as it is.

You get the thing, then send me your address, so I know where to
bring my trailer. I've never had a 7 sprint.

Seriously, I've had my 7 on the road for over 7 years, mostly as my
daily driver, & I enjoy driving it even more now, than I ever have,
& I've got a fairly pokey 8 to compare it to.

In other words, you'd be mad not to. Properly sorted, it would be a
superb weekend car down there, or a great daily driver.

Those sunroofs leak, I've found, but they are cool, even when
closed, which would be handy in the 40C+ you've been having
recently.

Go on [:)]. Do it [:)]. You know you want to realy [:)].

Agree with the forest flares and big wheels [:p] [8D].

Keep the sunroof, always a nice option to have it open or closed

It's like asking an alcholic if you should buy another bottle of plonk asking a question like that on here!!!

For an 'unbiased' view, try asking the same question on a Ford, MG, Vauxhall, VW . . . . . forum!

Re the sunroof. If it was my only 7 I wouldn't have one. They are very pleasant when open though. And I suppose, quite qyuirky and old fashioned now, so worth keeping.

Not a green car fan, yet Triton Green (the colour of your modern car, more ot less) is one of my favourites, don't mind dark metallic green but they're too common, don't like the colour of the car yet it looks OK on swifty's car although that's a DHC and has black wheels. Go figure.

While the plain top cars look better it would be nice a have a sun roof on some hot days. I wonder if the tops do leak if all the seals are in good shape. May be in Austalia's monsoon season.[:)] I had a sun roof on my former Dodge Colt and it was really handy, glad I had it.

You didn't say how much the car was. If the price is cheap you HAVE to get it. If it's reasonable it's a good idea. Regardless as many on this forum will agree....one is not enough.

Looks like Triton Green is becoming quite popular, maybe should stop my weblog [:p]

As for the car, go for it.
And with the engine you have in mind (and properly set up) it should make a very nice (fast) road car indeed [;)]

don't do it....you really don't need another car!!!!

And to help you get over the habit of adopting stray TR7's, I am presently taking donations of fhc's with webastcos.....
All you have to do is ship the car over here to my attention,Montreal Quebec, Canada. I will handle the rest [;)]

I quite like the green, but would a sprint or V8 get under a single bulge bonnet? What's that bonnet doing on a 1980 car anyway?
