Blatant Attempt to win!

Postby jclay (RIP 2018) » 10 Jan 2010 20:17

Hi, Guys and Ladies,

If any of you are members of the Vintage Triumph Register, I could use your vote for SC Region Coordinator. Only the South Central Region is a contested race. Here is my candidate's statement.

"Hello, Gentleman and Ladies,

My name is Clay Thompson and I have been nominated for the position of South Central Regional Coordinator currently held by my friend, Dave Massey. I am a member of the VTR, the Texas Triumph Register and the Triumph Wedge Owners Association. I am located in Houston, which puts me very close to five of the eleven Triumph Clubs in the region.

When I was in Junior high, I came face to face with an MG TC with a red radiator grill. The owner turned the corner and I wondered, “What was that car?â€￾ as I watched him drive down the street. About a year later I saw my first AH 3000, white over red, and the die was cast! I became a sports car nut.

By the time I was in High School, I did have a British built car, but it was no sports car. I had to work on my Nash Metropolitan every weekend so I could drive it to school the next week. When I married, we needed a second vehicle, and after much looking I paid $350 for a 1961 AH Sprite Mark II. My wife and I, our two daughters and Missy the dog drove that car all over Texas.

We are older now and my two daughters are married and my third daughter will wed next year. I have owned Fiats and nine Triumphs during that time and still have three Triumphs now. Soon, I will be down to two, my beloved 1980 TR7 and the TR7/V8 I am building. During the past five years, I have been active on several Triumph forums and have three of my own websites dedicated to Triumph TR7s.

I have also started two Yahoo Auto Groups. A Texas group dedicated to fallen friends who also loved Triumphs. The other group is Houston based, with the goal of finding as many TR7s and TR8s as possible to help the owners put them back on the road.

If elected to the position of South Central Regional Coordinator, I will do my best to follow in Dave’s footsteps. I will work with the officers of the groups in the Region to assist them as needed. My goal will be to help fellow Triumph owners by opening new lines of communications, so that members in the SC Region will be aware of functions and outings other groups have scheduled.

My thanks goes to my fellow members who showed their trust by nominating me for this position and to you for taking time to read this statement. I would appreciate your vote and those of your membership if you feel like passing this information along. The deadline is January 15.

I look forward to meeting you and possibly working with you in the future.

Clay Thompson"

Thanks Guys, I do appreciate your help!

Wow! Things sure are different on the national level. With our local club, someone goes to the restroom & may be the new president when they come out. [:D]

Good luck. Hope you get it.

Sooooo, Clay....
When do we find out if there is a SC Coordinator in our midst?
Regardless of the outcome, I can't think of a better person for the job! [:D]

I would like to thank each of you who voted for me.

I don't know when I will find anything out, as the ballots had to be postmarked by the 15th. It will probably take about two weeks for all of them to arrive and then you have the Florida count to do!! [:p]

Watch this space for updates. I know that everyone in the Houston club that was eligible to vote, voted for me.

Thanks Monica, Underdog, FI Spider and Steve_A for your good wishes!

I know that the current SC Coordinator is a TR8 guy as well as the events coordinator. I am just trying to keep us well represented!
