Gaiter cover

Postby nick » 02 Jan 2010 22:57

Rimmer shows a metal finish piece at the top of gaiter cover just below the shift knob. I have noticed that in interior pictures of other cars this piece is not there. Mine is missing as well. There is no part number for it in the catalogue. Has anyone found a suitable part that fits nicely there? It looks like if I want one from Rimmer I have to buy the complet gaiter cover.

Another solution here:

My gold car came with one of these already fitted. Looks quite good.

The piece is rubber and available as a used part from Robsport. Other than that you have to go bling or get it powder coated.

You can also get it in Delrin (black engineering plastic) from The Wedge Shop in the states (www.thewedgeshop.com). I ordered mine from there and had it within a few days, cost about £8 with shipping IIRC. I preferred the black to the chrome/silver bling and thought it would be quieter, but it still rattles against the stick at certain revs!

I bought the aluminium one off of e-bay - and then had it powder coated black.
Looks like the original rubber piece. Well, sort of - it's more smooth and reflective now.

I would agree with Alan above regarding the rattle; I bought mine from Ebay and preferred the "bling" finish. To stop the damn thing from rattling at certain revs, I used a short length of heat shrink on the stick.

Good to see you back Gary. I wrapped some insulating tape around the stick but it still does it, if a little muted.

Thanks for the tip, Gary.
Mine is going on when the weather warms up a bit!
Perhaps that's why Leyland made them from rubber!
