Speedometer

I have 1980 TR7 5 speed, USA version. It came with the 85 MPH speedometer then required. I sourced an 140 mph speedo out of a '76 TR7. Will it be a straight swap and work correctly. Any issues?

Yes, they are the same in all aspects apart from the scale on the face.

I have had a little problem with a low reading speedo.You may wanna check with a pal that you are doing the same speed as they are in a modern car before and after the speedo head swap.Simple just both drive at any pre agreed speed along side each other for a small distance on a dual or triple carrigeway.On return compare notes if you are up or down to any great degree then you need to check gearbox and axle ratios and drive in gearbox.You will more than likely be OK but remember we are not the first owners of these cars or any used parts so don't take it as granted all is A1.I have spent hours trying to work out stuff that someone bodged in 1984!![:D]

I've found my handy dandy GPS is is great for checking speedometer error...
My 'rumph is actually pretty good , the van too.... the Foci is my only car that reads slightly fast....and when you speedo lies, it's better to be fast than sorry [;)]

The speedos are a straight swap BUT it depends on few factors; size of tires and if the speedo cable is worn. Typically with changing out a speedo drive gear with a few teeth up or down will get you very close if you are not after just putting in the 140 speedo.

There is a game with gps devices.When you type in your destination it useualy says journey time 1.5 hrs or somemthing.Some small eurobox driving cap on backwards types are trying to then do the journey in less time.

thats a terrible irresponsible way to drive eh proving the GPS wrong [:D] wahhh i'd never do that, i mean that would require one to go over the speed limit...
Ah your correct both the 7 and 8 are quite close compared to the gps for speed matching but when i had a Ford mondeo it was at least 10% out reading faster..
