saw this car on e-bay it's description sounds ok but to borrow a trading phrase it looks a 'bit moody'[:)].Wrong colour matches with seats and body,the control stalks along with the ignition key seem to be on the wrong side(import maybe) and the whole thing is to a much earlier model design not a late V reg.See I am learning guys[;)].Anyway moaning aside it looks ok enough but it got me wondering should I have a black or body colour rear panel? Looks pretty sound. Looks like after the respray they put on early graphics. Is it possible to put the stalks on 180 degress out and turn the knobs around? For personal preference maybe? Wonder what else was changed. Interesting to see what reserve is.

My car is wearing black sills and lower bits.The blue car has blue sills and black rear[?]I can't decide what looks best(as a woman i reserve the right to not make up mind and just say nice colour[:o)]).I was wondering the same about those reverse controls can they be rotated to be opposite to the norm but the ign is on the left side too.Bit odd eh.

Early bootlid, early column stalks and ignition, late bonnet, early thermostat housing, late airbox, etc - rescued 'abandoned resto' rebuilt from a stock of spares, I reckon.

When I painted my car I did away with all the dowdy black panels - sills & rear panel. I did this because they make the car look dowdy. I stopped short at doing the same to the dowdy bumpers but I was 50/50 on that decision.

Looks like the same vintage as my old TR7. 1980 Canley built model. Early bootlid, double bulge bonnet, metal expansion tank on the offside & indicators on the right stalk. The decals are wrong, probably changed after the respray.
With regard to the back panel I think they look best in body colour unless it's a very early car & then black is original & best.

ive just had ambers sills painted black when resprayed , so i guess i prefer black !!! as for back panel looks ok to me ,!! zoe

I really never paid attention to the rear panels. The TR8 came body color and I left it that way.

I debated painting the lower sills body color and decided against. I agree that the black makes the car look lower and longer. They look short enough as is...cause they are! Also, the flat black is easily touched up/resprayed when the inevitable stone rash occurs. I used PPG black Epoxy Primer over stone gaurd on mine. Gives the right satin look and very durable.

Rear panel in the body colour for me.
For a DHC I'd say black sills combined with a bright/light colour ...

Both the decals on the blue car are not in the good position,(too high and close to the edge) and the tr7 logo is the earlier font.

Actually Stephs logo's are also mis-placed on the boot,it's Andy's car that is correct on all regards......


I'm on the fence for the black rear panel, i can take it or leave it......but really like the lower panels done in bodycolour ......

Honestly Peters car is possibly one of my favorite cars here, it just has the right stance, colour, wheels, and not to mention best bodystyle!!!

I meant the decals on the blue car were wrong ( A mixture of speke & canley) The ones on my yellow car are correct. [:)]

Mickey is spot on, the sills were done matt black to make the car look lower and sleeker - and it worked a treat.

There's no denying Peter's car looks great though.
