TR7 CONVERTIBLE RUBBER SEAL WHERE CAN I GET SOME?

Postby tr7inc » 06 Dec 2009 18:25

Hi guys just wondered as im coming to the end of replacing some of the worn parts on my 7, more the case interior trim etc, ive got some better door glass including Quaterlight glass that is better than the existing glass thats on the car, my question is where can i purchase the rubber seal that fits around the frame itself, ive called Rimmers etc but it appears to be no longer available is there any kind of replacement that would do the job the same way?

Many thanks as always

The felts are available new. The quarterlight glas does come out of the frames easily. I think it is held in with some rivots. This would be a good time to repaint or powder coat the parts if you have not already!

Yes the glass can easily (relatively) be replaced. While I'm at it I would do everything as I hate doing things twice. Remove door card. Remove side glass. Quarter light frames are removed with several bolts. It comes out the top with a little twisting. Be careful to not brake the paint on door. Drill out some rivets and remove glass and rubber seal. Remove glass from rubber seal. While the rubber is out treat with rubber cleaner/restorer (Macquires etc.) While your at this stage spray paint frame with trim paint if required. Reassemble and pop rivets. The felt runners are available and should be replaced as well as outside side window seals if needed. While your at this stage I'd remove door latch and clean and regrease including latch link connectors, spray locks with graphite spray. Clean and regrease window winders. Don't forget to Waxoil bottom part of door skin/frame. As you can see I like to do the complete job and be done with it rather than the minimum and have to go back again in a couple months or not have somthing not quite work right because it's worn or dried grease gumming up things.

Many thanks fellas, youre knowledge and expertise is always greatly appreaciated, tomorrow i aim to clean off the paint of the frame as the glass itself is in good shape no scatches etc, and take it from there & see how i go.

Thanks again

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">Steve - this got me to thinking: do you want a replacement windscreen to replace yours with the pitting? I think I might have one under all my junk - usual price applies (free [:D]!). Let me know and we can arrange for you to come and have a look if you fancy.

Speak soon,
