Steve

Why would you want drilled or groved drums?

In my opinion that would let to much road debris in. If you want, if I am not mistaken, the Alumninum drums that fit a Tr6 or 240Z are the same size. You would just have to hsve the wheel stud holes and center hole resized for the Tr7.

Steve

I understood that you wanted to up grade to something different, just did not understand your statement of drill and groove. As Bean stated this is what I had in mind for a bling look if you wanted something different.

You could try to find some alloy finned drums if you really want to. But an upgrade of the (rear) drums is quite unnecessary as long as you don’t do anything to the front/rear brake bias. You might buy some brakes shoes with better friction material.

And if you are going to change the brake bias, it is better to change to discs i.m.h.o.

You can get bigger slave cylinders for the rear drums. They will apply more pressure on the shoes but before you do that you might want to substitute the factory proportioning valve with an adjustable valve which will have the same effect up to a point.

I fitted rear discs as part of upgrading the rear end to a stronger
diff, with a propper SLD.

It made absolutely no difference to the braking, in hard public road
driving.

See my photos for a pic of them.

Most braking is done by front brakes so as Hasbeen says upgrading rear brakes would make little difference especially considering the high cost of conversion to discs. Unless your racing it where cost is secondary (or tertiary). In my case the rears lock up slightly before the fronts so I would want less rather than more braking there. (Stock tire sizes and mechanicals).
