Body Kits?

So I have a ragtop TR7 (was a $200 junkyard heap) that I shoved a highly tuned smallblock Chevy motor in. This thing is extremely fast, but handles horribly. Also I don't so much like the looks of this car - I realize I am probably saying this to the wrong folks, since you guys are all TR7 nuts... but I want a different look.

So I have three questions, really:

What can I do to make this thing handle better? Are there kits available where I can just buy all the stuff at once, and it can actually handle the 350 horsepower I am throwing at it, and actually handle a turn without something scraping?

What about wheels? It seems I'm kind of limited from the lug pattern on this thing (I am using the Triumph rear end which has been plenty stout, just modified the driveshaft coming from my Chevy transmission). I'd like a larger and more sporty looking wheel - also wider, for sure.

Finally, body kits - what is available? I see the group 44 body kit out there... but is there something different? As far as looks go, I'd love something with a smaller rear end, and a lot more "rounded" of a look - for example like a Shelby Cobra, an older Porsche style look - something like that. Yes, I know here aren't Cobra kits for the TR7 - but I'm wondering if there's any other kits besides the Group 44 kit that maybe is kind of more like what I am describing.

Really glad to find this forum, and I hope I haven't started off on the wrong foot by offending purists here with the rape and continued abuse of my TR7.

Hi Buzz,

Where are you located? Have you been to the BritishV8.com forum? You can get a lot of ideas and support there as well. Tim Nagy has body kits. Check out his website at http://www.morspeedperformance.com/part ... =24&ref=15

Also, check out the V8 forum on this board. Lots of good stuff here!!!

Awesome! I'll for sure check that out.

I am located in Atlanta, GA, USA. I actually go up to around your way (WV) at least once a month, though - so if you see stuff down here and are wanting someone to go look at it or drag stuff up your way, keep me in mind.

Thanks again!

I'm not doing too much fiberglass at this time. I have few orders backed up and not much time to work it. bummer.

Hi Tim,
Do you plan to get back into it soon? I tried to call this morning looking for you. I am interested in one of your TR7 kits; I'm in no hurry, but I need to be able to plan.

Let me know if you plan to make any more of these body kits.

Thanks so much,
Dave

Nothing wrong with that, a decent TR7 can take quite a bit of abuse ...

... but I'd stick to the original looks and adapt everything underneath [;)]

Most of the underneath has been "adapted" already, with the suspension next on the list. This car literally does wheelies. Freakin' WHEELIES.

It's the fastest car I've ever owned, but honestly? I just don't like the looks of the TR7.

I know, I know - I'll probably be shot for saying something like that here. Just being honest. I've got the car running like I want, now it's time to make it look like I want. And I don't want the wedge.

Anyone wanna buy it so I can get a rustbucket TR2 or something? And of course, rape that one, too [}:)]

I don't even know what that is... but I suspect that I've just been insulted, and that I deserve it [;)]

Yeah i'm with Beans - sell it to someone who likes and cares about the car and save it from anymore butchering.

You can add body kits as much as you like but all they will do is enhance the lines not turn it into a different car.

Very well - I suppose you guys are pretty much the experts, so if you say there's nothing out there for it, I'll believe that...especially after seeing Bean's resto thread. Impressive stuff! You obviously know your stuff.

I'll keep on the search for a few more weeks to see if there's any other fiberglass kits that perhaps are adaptable or anything, but I guess I'll just put this out there now - I am open to trades for anything else y'all got. I want something that either has the looks like I want (rounded classic small two seater - like an older TR) or something that perhaps I could build a kit car out of. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty.

Here's the specs on what I have:

1979 TR7 ragtop convertible, Body pretty much straight, the only rust I've seen in in the trunk floor area. The motor is a Chevy 327 with "double hump" high comp. heads, Brute Force cams, Edelbrock Performer intake, complete MSD ignition system, turbo 350 transmission, Holly four barrel carb, custom exhaust and headers. Didn't have to shave the firewall or anything to get the motor in, and it runs like a champ. New tires and such on the car, interior is all there but doesn't look so great. Mostly needs a cleaning.

I have a hood, but you'd have to cut it and put a "hood scoop" or something on, because it won't fit over the motor. Right now there's a purist weeping softly, I'm guessing. Sorry - I just wanted a fast little sports car. I should have thought out the actual car I was putting it into better, I suppose.

Either way - if you're into the looks of a TR7, this thing is freaking FAST and the hard work has been done. Do some body work and throw some nice seats and carpet in it, and you've got a really cool TR7.

Youtube is blocked from my work, but I know I have at least one video of the car on my channel. Here is the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCcCigtANxk If that is the car then I suggest you remove the motor & sell the rest as a parts car or use it for target practice. It would take a huge investment to get that car back to a fit state & it doesn't sound like you care too much about it.

Well, I'm sorry guys, but who the fcuk buys a car they don't like the look of [:0].
Oh yeah! Buz Bomb, the car in your video is a TRIUMPH TR7 not a Triumph Spitfire [;)].

You guys sure are touchy.

Ah well. I'll sell it and build another. You guys have fun with your little slow, fugly cars [:D]
