Hi Gents,

I'm new to this forum and I am hoping someone knowledgable can help me out on this matter.

I am looking for production dates and names of the various editions of TR7 / TR8 produced, I have searched high and low on the internet to no avail.

If anyone can help me out on this I would be ever so grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply but no,

Who are they - I have never heard of them.

While it may not be 100% accurate (is any resource, really?), Bill Piggott's book, Original Triumph TR7 & TR8 has a very good section on regular and special edition offerings. Not sure whether dates are covered, but the names are. David Knowles' Triumph TR7 - The Untold Story is another good resource.

When I was shopping for my TR7 in Charlotte NC, in 1976, there were two special editions on the lots. One was "Southern Skies" which was used by dealers in some of the Southeastern states. It had special striping, a sunroof of a particular style, "Southern Skies" lettering in an odd font on the sides, and an interesting sun/moon graphic on the trunk. The only photos I've been able to find of a "Southern Skies" car show one in a junkyard, and also an article about the cars with a picture or two:

The second special edition on the lots was called "Black Gold" - the cars were black with black interiors and special gold striping, a dash plate, and unique gold-toned wheels. I only ever saw one or two of those.

I'm always looking for more info and pictures on both of these editions, especially "Southern Skies". I wish I'd bought one of them instead of my plain-jane TR7 but if I could ever get my hands on one of those sunroofs I'd be tempted to do a conversion.

I bought Bill's book on sale in a book store (new) for $20. A year later I bought my Spider. Lots of production info and good resource if you want info on originality such as what years what paints were available, production numbers etc. Not 100% accurate but not surprising considering the state of British Leyland at the time.
