below are pics of the damaged bodywork.














<u><b>No panels were replaced </b> </u> just repaired
Also needed 2 new front wheels and tyres, new subframe,
radiator and lower bracket, polybush set at the front.

The panels resprayed were the front including both wings and
the drivers door.

Passenger door and both rear quarter panels and the boot were
not done (got a separate quote for that to be painted) GUESS?

I am waiting for my copy of the receipt from my insurance
company just to find out what was done to my car as it was NOT cheap.

Below are the things that I have to repair (from the repair's done[:(!])
Wheels at the front are a different colour (all 4 need powder coated
so they match) £200

Tyres at the front are now a different make from the rears. £200

Exhaust manifold is blowing (accident twisted the subframe but didn't do this say repairers[:(!]) £100

Valves on the wheels were alloy ones, now fronts have big black
rubber ones (rears still have alloy) £10

I am sure the TR specialist will be along to add his comments.....

£2000-3000? Panel resprays should be ~£200 each not including panel beating. I'm using NZ prices & adding 30% for UK cost premium.

Well several sharp intakes of breath looking at that list.

There is this whole problem with insurers not paying out for "betterment" as they call it only standard spec as it comes out of the box and that accounts for the rubber valve caps and different coloured wheels etc.

My guess would definatley be into 5 figures when all on the list is said and done: £10,000 +

I go tearing round in my Grinnall with the TR Register Yoof group but now and again it brings it home just how costly it would be to bump it [:(]

As I am in an insurance approved tier A bodyshop everyday at the figures already mentioned I think the insurance company would have chosen to total loss the vehicle, the cut off point between repair or total loss is when the repair reaches 60% of the value of the vehicle this may differ in classic car policies.

I would guess a price of £3000 to do the work stated to a very good standard ?

With all that surface rust everywhere inside and under the vehicle;

Here in Sweden it would have been a cash pay-out total loss, even if it were on a Classic policy...
I know, because dads rhd TR7V8 looks just the same - and we'll have to bring that one abroad to
have it fixed eventually. No serious panel beater over here will touch such a car; "We don't deal
with rust." And dad and I want the best for it!

Let's guess it cost something like UKP 3000 to UKP 5000?

well to take a guess £4500 - £5500 as just to get a modern bumper replaced and sprayed is gonna cost you £1000

I have no wish to offend either party here, but feel I have to add my tuppence worth as this post concerns me.

Oh, I have no interest with either party either.

Personally, I don't think it matters diddly squat how much your repairer charged. This is a matter for your insurance company and the claims assessor. If they thought it was extortion then they simply won't pay. Not your fight.

How much any company decides to quote to do a job (re the remainder of the painting) is up to them. All companies have overheads/standards and ultimately a 'price' for the service they perform. It's your choice as the consumer whether you think that price is for you. You decided not to go with it - you excercised your choice. Ok, it sounds a lot of dosh, but we only have one side of the coin to go on here. Maybe they priced as they didn't want the work - we simply don't know.

I have no knowledge or experience here but, I thought you had to 'sign the vehicle off' before your insurance company pays out. If you're not satisfied that the work meets the standard, then I think you need to discuss with your insurer?? Happy to be put right btw.

Having read your list of complaints, based on the information you have given, there's only blowing exhaust that would seem to be of any issue to me. Hindsight is a great thing, but maybe you should have specified alloy valve stems (maybe you did? You didn't say). Likewise, provided the tyres are to the correct spec I've no idea where you would stand in requesting a particular make? I see your point, but only think you would have a gripe if they were say £50 tyres compared to £100 tyres. Again, an issue for your insurer maybe?

I really don't think the repairer will be along to add their comments. It's not a public matter. I certainly wouldn't try to defend myself publically if I were them. You need to persue your grievances in private (maybe you did and this was your last resport - we don't know).

As a daily reader of this forum, I enjoy reading others ups and downs. It's good fun. But unfortunately your post comes across as a bit of a dig at a party who aren't really in a position to reply properly (as they are in business it would be unethical). And your list of complaints doesn't amount to very much - I'm not trying to have a go at you. Just telling you as I see it.

I too have had experience with a top 3 TR7/8 supplier where to this day I still believe I didn't get the service I paid for - that was all about sub-contracted shoddy workmanship (in my opinion). But that's mine (and their) personal business. It would make interesting reading for everyone, but if I were to recount the tale in a public forum I would try to remove my Mr Angry opinion!!

From another angle, if when you crash it next time you unearth that they have stuck it together with chewing gum, and it's a real bodge, then I think you have real justification to go for the throat!!!
