Got it off

Yesterday me and a friend managed to get the head of after a few hours of dirty work lol. In all it was not too bad a job. With the studs we double nutted them and they came off. We managed to get the head off with a little tap of an hammer to break the seal and before we know it the water was running out.
Now time to get the head skimmer and then with new studs and gasket set, will put her back on and hopefully all will be ok.
Anyone now any good places around the midlands area where I can get the head skimmed without it costing the earth?

There's an engineering company called North Road Engineering who quoted me £30 for a skim about 6 months ago. Again, is that too expensive? Would be nice to know what the going rate is because I'm going to completely restore a 16v soon.

That is a good price I was expecting it to be more like 80 plus. May be a bit far for me but thanks, I will give them a call and see what the price is now.

I am thinking the same thing, trying to get a sprint engine.

I seem to remember last time I got one done, it was £35, they acid dipped it for that price as well.
Where abouts in the Midlands are you?

I can recommend Halesowen Engines, near Junc 3, M5.
As used by the local Motor Trade.
0121-501 3764, or 550 3211.

1979 TR7V8 FHC.
13.31 secs standing quarter.
20 years of tinkering and tuning......So far!
Being reshelled at the moment.

I just called Tamworth engines and they said £20 for a head skim, not too bad at all

Hi Phil,

Why do you want to have the head skimmed? Have you got low compression or is it overheating?

As I had to take it of to replace the broken tappet drum and thought that it would be a good time to have it cleaned up. She does over heat a bit.

Before you have it skimmed, first check if it is warped.
No need to skim it if it is still flat/true

and check the block face for flatness, bolts/studs tend to pull out material around the holes they screw into.
