when changing my brake pads today
top of bleed screw just broke off when i closed it
cant see how i can ever can the rest of it out to replace it
without ending up replacing the caliper
least its closed [:(]

take the caliper off,

find out what thread does the bleed screw have.

take a drillbit that is smaller to the lower measure of the bleed screw thred, and drill it out.

calipers are cast iron, thats a hard material, and the bleed screw is plain (crap) steel , its soft, so the drill bit will have a harder time to cut the caliper than the bleed screw,

go to your local hardware store, there is a tool for extracting broken bolts that looks like a conical tap



as you screw it in the bleed screw should come out, if not drill it out all the way , be carefull not to dammage the thread

what size is the screw?
are they a universal size?

If you are lucky and the remaining bleed screw is not too badly rusted in place you may be able to tap a slot screwdriver into the remains and use it to screw the stub out.
If you drill be very careful that you don't go too deep and damage the taper at the bottom of the hole.

i think so ,

most cars in the world have the same metric threads on the calipers , 10x1 for the brake line and same bleed screws.
